TITLE: TIGHTENING TORQUE FOR CAP SCREWS,

BOLTS AND NUTS FOR METAL TO METAL JOINTS.

1.0 GENERAL TIGHTENING

Torque for various sized fasteners used in Demag Delaval products is
presented in Table 1. The torque levels have been selected based on
the general comments listed herein.

1.1 The average coefficient of friction at the bearing face

of the screw or nut at the thread contact surface is based on
surfaces lubricated with heavy oil or other common thread
lubricants.

1.2 The average resultant bolt or screw stress is 45,000 psi (minimum).

1.3 The number of threads per inch has been omitted from
the table. The table is suitable for any standard threads per
inch.

1.4 The table is suitable for any material having a yield strength of 70,000 psi
minimum.

1.5 The table is suitable for:

1.5.1 Hex Cap Screws

1.5.2 Heavy Hex Screws

1.5.3 Socket Head Cap Screws

1.5.4 Flange 12-Point Screws

1.5.5 Hex Nuts

1.5.6 Heavy Hex Nuts

2.0 Torque values may be increased by a factor of 1.3 if threads and

bearing surfaces are unlubricated or in poor condition.

3.0 A torque value for a particular location specified on a drawing or

in a technical manual will prevail over this standard.

4.0 Joints using gaskets may require lower torque values specified on
drawings or in technical manuals.

5.0 Tightening Torques for Lubricated Fasteners:
