PROJECT
INTRODUCTION

2G Flexi Edge BTS Modules
Many of new nokia bts working professional unable to get the flexi bts module units
description like(ERDA,ESMA,DTRX) etc , in this tutorial each and every unit equipped
in nokia bts has been described in detail. Student, Telecom Trainees (GET) and working
professional will get benefit out of it.
13
There are some units which we should know, before we under stand the Flexi Card.
Some Important units which we should know before the explanation of Flexi card
Every Unit name is of Four Letters. Small ‘x’ means there can be any letter depending
upon the version and RF Band of the unit. Sample is given for Wide Band Combiner is
given below.
E W x X
These two letters indicated unit name/type. Shows GSM Band. Shows Version of
unit.
ESMA
14
ESMA is the controller & power unit of Flexi BTS. Details of all the connectors of ESMA
are as per below.
• Each Bus corresponds to 2 TRX in BSC. Bus 1= TRX 1&2, Bus 2 = TRX 3&4, ends
on…..
• Same Power & Bus Connectors should be used for any DTRX. Means P1B1 or P2B2
etc….
• POWER is a connector where we have to provide filtered -48V DC from the power
plant.
• SO is the Synch Out connector used to give the clock to the expansion (chained)
BTS.
• SI is the Synch In connector used to accept the clock from the Master (chained) BTS.
• LMP is the Local Management Port for Local Login Purpose. Type:- RJ45
• SS is connected to Nokia Site Support System (Nokia Provided Power Plant System)
15
EXxx
EXxx is a Dual TRX. It also gives power and Digital I/O connectivity to the Duplexer
(ERxx) Unit. Details of all the connectors of EXxx are as per below.
• BUS is connected to ESMA through BUS cable. DTRX is numbered according to the
Bus No. of ESMA to which it is connected. Like DTRX connected to Bus 1 will be
shown as EXxx1 in the Flexi BTS Manager.
• PWR is connected to corresponding ESMA power connector.
• ER is connected to the ERxx (Duplexer) Unit of the same sector.
• TxA is the Transmit Port of TRX A.
• TxB is the Transmit Port of TRX B.
• RxA is the Receive Port of TRX A. It will work as internal diversity input for TRX B.
• RxB is the Receive Port of TRX B. It will work as internal diversity input for TRX A.
• RxADiv is the External Diversity Port for TRX A. This can be used only with S13 (EP
2.0). Will be useful in case of 4 way uplink diversity.
• RxBDiv is the External Diversity Port for TRX B. This can be used only with S13 (EP
2.0). Will be useful in case of 4 way uplink diversity.
• DP is used in Double Power Mode; it is connected to DP connector of EWxA.
16
ERxx
ERxx is a Duplexer Unit with internal Multi Couplers & two Full Duplex Antenna Ports.
Details of all the connectors of EXxx are as per below.
• Power and Digital I/O connectivity to the ERxx (Duplexer) unit is feed by EXxx
(DTRX) unit.
• It should be noted that power and Digital I/O connectivity to the Duplexer should be
given from the DTRX of the same sector.
• ERxx is numbered according to the number of its corresponding DTRX from which it
is taking Power & Digital I/O connectivity. Like if ERxx is connected to EXxx2 then it
will be shown as ERxx2 in the Flexi BTS Manager.
• TxA accepts Transmit Input for Antenna Port A.
• TxB accepts Transmit Input for Antenna Port B.
• RxA1 to RxA4 are the ports giving received signal from the Antenna A.
• RxB1 to RxB4 are the ports giving received signal from the Antenna B.
• ExtA, RxAO also gives received signal from Antenna A.
• ExtB gives received signal from Antenna B.
• RxAI is used give externally received signal to the duplexer.
Currently RxAO & RxAI are connected to each other. Block diagram of ERxx is self
explanatory for this.
