The Central Sector Scheme for agribusiness Development through
venture capital assistance and Project Development Facility is being implemented since July 2005 by the Small Farmer’s Agribusiness Consortium (SFAC), Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India in close co-ordination / association with State level SFACS & commercial banks.
OBJECTIVES OF THE SCHEMES:
The main objectives of the schemes are
(a) to facilitate setting up of agribusiness ventures in close association with
banks. (b) To catalyze private investment in setting up of agribusiness projects & thereby providing assured market to producers for increasing rural income & employment. (c) To strengthen backward linkages of agribusiness products with producers. (d) To assist farmers producer groups & agriculture graduates to enhance their participation in value chain through project development facility. (e) To arrange training & visits etc., of agripreneurs setting up identified agribusiness projects
Under the above scheme, for setting agribusiness projects involved
in value addition / processing of agri / horti a produce with an investment of Rs.50.00 Lakhs and above with backward linkage for sourcing the raw material venture Capital Assistance upto Rs.75.00 Lakhs is offered by the Central Small Farmers Agribusiness Consortium (SFAC) Ministry of -2- Agriculture, Government of India. As Tamilnadu State is endowed with a large variety of horticulture crops, it is viewed that there is enormous for agribusiness projects. Venture capital assistance provided under the above scheme to agri projects in interest free loan till to banks term loan is fully repaid by the beneficiary and would automatically be converted into a term loan on the last day date of such payment. The term loan repayment period is fixed by the lending banks which is generally 7 years. The venture capital assistance is considered as equity / interest free loan for the original repayment period fixed by the lending banks. The venture capital after it becomes loan could be repaid to SFAC in lumpsum or in four quarterly instalments together with the amount of interest upto same rate as was applicable on the term loan of the lending bank.
