1 Solve the simultaneous equations 2k = h + 2 and h + k = hk.

2 (a) Express f(x) = 2x2  4x + 2m 1 in the form of f(x) = p(x + q)2 + r.

(b) The graph f(x) = 2x  4x + 2m 1 has a minimum point at (k , 1).

Find the value of k and of m.


Hence, sketch the graph for 0  x  3 and state the corresponding range for
f(x).

3 It is given that  and  are roots of the equation x2  2x + k = 0 and 2 and 2 are
roots of the equation x2 + mx + 9 = 0.
Find the values of k and m.

5 A set of data consists of twenty numbers. The sum of the numbers, x, is 300 while
