Allergic reaction is the body's way of responding to an "invader." When the body senses

a foreign substance, called an antigen, the immune systems were triggered. The

immune system normally protects the body from harmful agents such as bacteria and

toxins. Its overreaction to a harmless substance (an allergen) is called a hypersensitivity

reaction, or an allergic reaction.

Anything can be an allergen. Dust, pollen, plants, medications, foods, insect venoms,

animal dander, viruses, or bacteria are examples of allergens. The reactions may occur

in one spot, such as a small localized skin rash, itchy eyes, or all over, as in a whole body

rash such as hives (urticaria). A reaction may include one or several symptoms.

Most allergic reactions are minor, such as a rash from poison ivy, mosquito bites, or

sneezing from hay fever. The type of reaction depends on the person's immune system

response, which is sometimes unpredictable.

As allergic reaction is a serious one, some precaution must to take up. As a result allergic

test are required. One of the advantages allergic tests is to know the type of the allergen

so patient can make self precaution to avoid taking or contact with that chemical.

The allergic test also can measure how far or serious the allergic are. If the allergic are

more serious increase in caution are taken out.

·rom knowing the types of allergic patient or clinician know how or what type of

treatment must to give if patient in allergic reaction for immediate feedback from the

diagnostic test.

IgE Calibrators, traceable via an unbroken chain of calibrations to the 2nd International

Reference Preparation 75/502 of Human Serum Immunoglobulin E, are used for the

determination of specific IgE antibodies. Values are expressed as kUA/l, where A

represents allergen-specific antibodies. Values above limit of quantification represent a

progressive increase in the relative concentration of allergen-specific antibodies (3).

ImmunoCAP Multiple Allergen results are reported as qualitative values (positive or

negative). ·or ImmunoCAP Multiple Allergen 0.35 kU/l is recommended as a cut-off.

Values between limit of quantification and 0.35 kU/l may represent very low levels of

IgE antibodies. Values > 0.35 kU/l indicate specific IgE antibodies to one or more of the

allergens coupled to the ImmunoCAP Multiple Allergen.

Reinvestigation with appropriate ImmunoCAP single allergen is recommended when

there is a need to further identify and obtain a quantitative result for the specific

allergen(s).

A value below 0.35 kUA/l indicates undetectable or very low levels of allergen specific

IgE antibodies towards all of the allergens bound to ImmunoCAP multiple allergen but

deviations from results obtained with single ImmunoCAP allergens may occur.

The interpretation of results obtained with ImmunoCAP multiple allergen cannot be

compared with the results with ImmunoCAP single allergen. The degree of positivity of

ImmunoCAP multiple allergen cannot be considered the cumulative degree of positivity

of the respective ImmunoCAP single allergen.
