Pedoman Penulisan Skripsi Sastra Inggris

Fakultas Sosial dan Humaniora merupakan salah satu dari tiga fakultas yang ada di
Universitas Buddhi Dharma. Fakultas Sosial dan Humaniora merupakan peleburan dari Sekolah
Tinggi Bahasa Asing Buddhi yang dahulunya hanya memiliki dua program studi yaitu Sastra
Inggris (S1) dan Bahasa Inggris (D3) yang didirikan pada tahun ........... Menilik kebelakang awal
mula pendirian Sekolah Tinggi Bahasa Asing Buddhi diawali dengan pendirian Akademi Bahasa
Asing Buddhi pada tahun ...... Setelah turunnya izin pendirian Universitas Buddi pada tahun
2014 ditambahkan satu program studi Ilmu Komunikasi (S1). Untuk saat ini akreditasi program
studi masing masing di dalam Fakultas Sosial dan Humaniora adalah Sastra Inggris akreditasi B,
Misi :
a. Memiliki kemampuan untuk berkomunikasi dalam Bahasa Inggris secara aktif dan
berterima.
b. Memiliki kemampuan untuk menjadi peneliti dalam bidang Bahasa Inggris dan
Sastra Inggris.
c. Memiliki kemampuan untuk menjadi pelatih dan tutor di instansi swasta dan
pemerintah.
d. Memiliki kemampuan untuk menjadi seorang penerjemah dan interpreter.
e. Memiliki kemampuan untuk menciptakan karya-karya Sastra seperti, novel, cerpen,
puisi, prosa, atau karya Sastra lain nya memberi sumbangan bagi perkembangan
Sastra.
f. Memiliki kemampuan membuat tulisan kreatif yang dipublikasikan dalam berbagai
jenis media.

8. ABSTRACT
ABSTRACT
Modal auxiliaries had been proved as one of the most troublesome for non-
native speakers due to its overlapping meanings. Besides, the overgeneralization of
modal auxiliaries within the study of grammar contributes the unawareness of
learners of the criteria of modal auxiliaries within the semantics category. Therefore,
the current study aimed at investigating the use of modal auxiliaries depicted in the
newspaper by using the theory of Biber at al. 2002 and Halliday and Matthiessen
(2014). The data was taken from English version of online newspaper namely Jakarta
Post particularly in political issues as the representative of non-native text. To do this,
the small size corpus was created using Antconc program version 3.4.4 to analyze the
data. The finding showed that modal auxiliaries would, will, and should were the most
frequently used than may, might, and shall. In the category of semantics functions,
some meanings were overly used like “prediction” meaning of will and would,
“possibility” meaning of can, could, may and might, and the “necessity” meaning of
must and should. The study also found some inappropriateness in the ways the
speaker conveyed the meaning of modal auxiliaries. The finding would be useful to
English teachers and textbook authors who are responsible in providing the
information within the academic field. The study also contained suggestions for the
further research to contribute more in learner corpora.
