2 CABLE LABELS
The NSN cable labelling system consists of two identical labels on each cable, one label on each end
of the cable. The identification text on the label indicates the function of the cable and the equipment
to which it is connected.

2.1 Power & Signal Cable Labels

The NSN recommended cable label types for the power and signal cables are the self-adhesive wrap-
around paper type with printed text, for example; BRADY LASERTABTM type ELAT-18-361 and
ELAT-19-361
<refer to: http://www.bradyeurope.com > or equivalent (see Figure 4).
The cable label must be of the correct size for the cable to which it is fitted, such that the transparent
film entirely covers the printed text on the label. The text on the label must be clearly printed in large
bold black font of optimised size for the label. Typically two or three lines of text are printed on each
label to improve visibility when attached to the cable.

2.2 Antenna Line Cable Labels

The labels used on the antenna RF feeder cables are outdoor UV resistant pre-printed tag type,
having black bold printed/etched characters on a yellow background, - see Figure 1.
Each label consists of characters, “Sx/A/x45" indicating the sector, the antenna, and the
connected port +45/-45 of the antenna.
The tag labels are attached to the RF cable with black UV resistant plastic cable ties.

3 DDF/ODF AND CIRCUIT BREAKER LABELS

At each BTS site the following items, which are directly connected to the BTS equipment, are to be
labelled:-
• AC Circuit Breakers to Flexi Power Modules
• DC Circuit Breakers to Flexi System/RF Modules
• DDF panel for PCM E1 connections to BTS
• ODF panel for STM-1 connections to BTS
• Alarm Panel for BTS External Alarm connections
The NSN recommended label types are the DYMO (RhinoPRO® range thermal-transfer printer) or
equivalent with tape type self-adhesive label.
The self adhesive labels are to be placed on, or adjacent to, the relevant item to clearly indicate its
function.
The standard label set for each BTS site is given in Table 2 below.

4 CABLE LABELLING PROCEDURE

4.1 Location of Antenna Cable Labels
Two labels are attached to each feeder cable, refer to Figure 2. For each installed feeder one label
must be attached in each of the following positions:-
• at the top end of the feeder cable.
• at the bottom end of the feeder cable.

4.1.1 Fixing of Antenna Cable Labels

The antenna cable labels are attached to the RF cables using two black UV resistant cable ties.
White or transparent cable ties must not be used in areas exposed to sun radiation!
1. Attach one label to the each end of the feeder cable.
2. Place the labels such that they are easily visible on all cables for future identification.
3. Cut the plastic ties short and tight so that no sharp edges are remaining.

4.2 Fixing of Self-Adhesive Cable Labels

The self-adhesive labels are fitted to the cables by simply wrapping the label around the cable, see
Figure 4 below. Ensure that the correct label size is used such that the protective transparent plastic
part of the label always covers the print area of the label.
