Referrals are keeping things hopping at Auto Collision Solutions

Advertising is a must.
Discount offers can be effective.
Location is important.
But the one thing that keeps many local
businesses alive and thriving is customer
referrals.
No one knows that better than Mark
Niepokuj, owner of Auto Collision Solutions
in Oxford.
“It’s just been huge,” he said. “We’re get-
ting more and more referrals from happy cus-
tomers. We’re busier than ever. It’s telling me
we’re giving a great service to the public and
obviously, they’re happy with what they’re
getting.”
Things are hopping at the 533 S. Lapeer
Rd. (Suite B) shop to the point where
Niepokuj had to add a night shift just to
keep up with the demand and maintain a
good turnaround time.
“We’re that busy right now. It’s just in-
credible,” he said.
In business in Oxford for five years now,
Auto Collision Solutions offers collision re-
pairs, auto detailing (both inside and out),
rust repair and restoration, and work on vin-
tage vehicles.
They even have a scanning computer that
enables technicians to identify problems with
engine, brakes and airbag systems.
“If the ‘check engine’ light comes on, we
can tell you what caused it to come on and fix
it,” said owner Mark Niepokuj. “The com-
puter pretty much goes through the whole
car. If I didn’t have this computer, I’d have to
send it down to the dealer or somewhere
else.”

Auto Collision Solutions helps their cus-
tomers stay on the road while their vehicle’s
in the shop by offering free loaner vehicles.
“We’ve got about four vehicles to offer,”
Niepokuj said. “There’s no charge or time
limit. You use it as long as we’re working on
your vehicle. We’re trying to make things as
convenient as possible for our customers.”
When it comes to insurance deductibles,
Auto Collision Solutions is always more than
willing to work with customers.
“Times are tough,” Niepokuj
said. “If I can help somebody out
by covering part of their deduct-
ible, I’m going to do it in a heart-
beat. Sure, it’s less profit for me,
but I want to help people as much
as I can.”
Auto Collision Solutions also
does fiberglass gel coat repairs on
boats and wave-runners.
“We typically do about 10 to
15 boats a year,” Niepokuj said.
“It’s a really convenient service
considering how many boat own-
ers and lakes we have around
here.”
Niepokuj began working in his
field at a dealership more than 30
years ago.
But he wanted to be his own
boss and he wanted things done
right, so he eventually went into business for
himself. He owned a shop in Warren for five
years, before moving his operation north to
Oxford five years ago.
Today, he works with three other techni-
cians. Combined, they have more than 73
years experience between them. They can and
do work on all makes and models of vehicles.
So what separates Auto Collision Solu-
tions from its competitors? In a word – time.
“A lot of places pay their technicians on
commission – the more work they get done,
the more money they make,” Niepokuj ex-
plained. “They do job as fast as they can, so
they can get to the next job.”
“I pay my technicians a salary, so no mat-
ter how much work they do, they get paid the
same amount,” he noted.
As a result, Niepokuj believes his techni-
cians pay more attention and work at a more
methodical pace, all of which leads to a higher
quality job in the end. “They finish the job
they have instead of worrying about getting
to the next one,” he said.
Unlike dealerships that charge customers
big bucks and “really don’t care about the
product,” Niepokuj said his business is much
more customer-friendly. “We’re more in-tune
with the customer’s vehicle and needs,” he
said. “That’s our livelihood.”

Mimi's Metals in Lake Orion.
"We know if we're honest with people,
they're not only going to come back,
they're also going to tell their family and
friends about us, and that's the best kind
of advertising we can get," said Smith,
who began collecting coins as a child some
25 years ago.
Established in 2008 and open in its cur-
rent location since November, Mimi's Met-
als buys, sells and trades all precious met-
als, including gold, silver, platinum, and
palladium.
For Smith, what started as a hobby soon
became a passion. The draw, he explained,
was both the artistic value of the different
designs, as well as the historical aspect -
knowing the pieces were once traded as
actual currency.
As he read any information he could
find on the topic, Smith began buying pre-
cious metals as a mechanism for saving -
and recommending others do the same.
"It can be difficult for a lot of people to
save money," he said. "By investing in pre-
cious metals, you're saving, as well as pre-
serving your wealth against inflation."
