Friday Flyer March 4, 2011

Hang in there, Neighbors, Spring arrives March 20!

Board of Directors Work Session: The Board of Directors will hold a work session with members of the Fluvanna Board of
Supervisors representing Lake Monticello on Mon., Mar. 7, at 7PM in the Terrace Room. The meeting will be an opportunity for LMOA
and County representatives to exchange ideas and develop a rapport that will be beneficial to both. There will be time before the
discussion begins for member comments on the meeting topic only. Please sign up before the call to order.

Board of Directors Special Executive and Open Sessions: On Mon., Mar. 7, immediately following the Board work
session with county officials, the Board will hold special executive and open sessions to consider a proposal to authorize a contract for
removal and replacement of Marina basin docks. The meeting will be called to order not earlier than 8PM and immediately go into
executive session in the Terrace Board Room. Afterward, the open session will return to order in the Terrace Room. Time will be
allotted for member comments on the meeting topic only.

Notice of Special Meeting of Members was mailed on Mar. 2 to LMOA members of record as of the close of books on
Feb. 25. The Notice contains information about the proposal, a proxy and two envelopes for voting in advance of the April 2 Special
Meeting of Members, which was called for member vote on use of $700,000 from the Emergency Reserve Account to cover the cost of
repairs to the Main and Tufton Lake dams. The proxy authorization, which must be completed and returned with the proxy, is printed on
the green envelope. Members may begin proxy voting immediately. Please read the instructions carefully and return your proxy and
authorization before the deadline of 5PM on Fri., Mar. 25.

Discussion of Proposal on Funding Dam Repairs: The Broadcast Group welcomes representatives from the Board of
Directors to “This Week at the Lake” to discuss the pros and cons of the Special Member Meeting proposal to use ERA funds for dam
repairs. The program will be shown on cable TV channel 10(977) at 7PM on Thurs., Mar. 10, and run daily at 9AM and 7PM through
Wed., Mar. 16.

News from the Golf Course

Now that the greens have reopened and the weather is improving, golfers are becoming excited about a great golf season. Here is
news of interest to golfers and those who want to become golfers:
x Beginner Clinics are designed for beginners and those who have not played in a while. The clinics will be followed by an eight-week
mentoring program with women playing on Monday afternoons and men playing on Tuesday afternoons. The cost is $25 per person for
each series.
Women – Tuesdays from 12N to 1:15PM beginning Apr. 12 and running through May 3
Men – Wednesdays from 12N to 1:15PM beginning on Apr. 13 and running through May 4
Sign up for the clinics on the Play Golf America website at
http://www.playgolfamerica.com/index.cfm?action=facility&facility=0449640 or call the Pro Shop at 589-3075.
x 2011 Tournament Schedule has been added to the LMOA website at www.lmoa.org under Amenities and the Library.

Fluvanna School Board is Hosting an Information Session on the school system’s Domino Plan on Sat., Mar. 12,
in the Terrace Room on the lower level of the Clubhouse. The purpose of the meeting is to remind the community of the plan outline
and to get input. The presentation will begin at 11:30AM and run for 20 to 30 minutes, followed by a question and answer period. All
are welcome to attend and participate.

Ashlawn Grille Kitchen Floor to Be Replaced: At the Feb. 24 meeting, the Board authorized replacement of the flooring
in the kitchen, wait station, storage and bar areas with epoxy covering. The Board authorized a series of purchase orders totaling
$29,850 to replace the flooring and to implement and monitor abatement procedures for asbestos contained in the mastic of the old
flooring. The project will include containment of the areas where the work will be performed and will result in closure of the Ashlawn
Grille until the work is complete. At the present time, the work is planned for mid-April, but firm dates will be announced in advance.
Funding for the project was budgeted for 2011 from Major Repairs and Replacement (MR&R).
March Golf Committee Meeting Change: The committee will meet on Tues., Mar. 8, at 4PM at the Eagles Nest.
Beginning in April, meetings will be held at 4:30PM on the second Wed. of each month. (Please note correction.)

Update on Community Fishing Pier: The Board of Directors has approved a purchase order for design and building
materials for the Community Fishing Pier for just under $27,000. The decision to upgrade to Correct Deck CX composite decking
material rather than pressure treated wood at the resulting higher cost is easily justified by lower maintenance costs and great
durability, plus, it is attractive, easier to install and won’t splinter. There are elements of the pier installation that will be purchased
separately, including concrete for the ramp and enhancements such as a bulletin board, fish feeder and safety sign for an estimated
$2,800. The Fishing Pier account currently stands at $25,700, which means that $4,100 will be needed to cover all the costs of the
project.
Please help fill the gap by sending your check made out to LMOA, with memo “Fishing Pier” to Bo’s Pier Group, 265 Turkeysag Trail,
Suite 102, #130, Palmyra, VA 22963. Please note that donations to the Fishing Pier are not tax deductible.
Thank you for your continued support for this community amenity.

Do You Have Some Time for Interesting and Worthwhile Volunteer Service? LMOA committees are at their
best when they are fully staffed, but six committees that serve the community in a variety of ways have 17 vacancies. One or more
could benefit from your service. The committees that are looking for candidates are Buildings, Roads & Grounds, Finance, Lake
Preservation, Storm Water Management, Wildlife, Audit. For more information about individual committees, call Executive Assistant
Meg Gore at 589-8263, ext. 110, or read committee charters on the website at www.lmoa.org under Library, Governing Documents,
Policy Manual, Chapter 16. To apply for one or more committees, please fill out and return to LMOA a Committee Resource Form,
available at the Administration Office or on the website under Library, Forms.

News from the Eagles Nest: The breakfast buffet at the Eagles Nest has been discontinued.

Lake Monticello Pool Employment Opportunities: LMOA is accepting applications for lifeguards, swim instructors,
assistant managers and front desk staff for the 2011 pool season. American Red Cross Certificate required. Employment applications
available at the Clubhouse and on the website at www.lmoa.org under Library, Forms and Applications, Miscellaneous Forms. For
more information, call Mary Acree at 906-0029.

39th Annual Meeting of Members will be held on Sat., June 25. Members will vote to fill three vacancies on the Board of
Directors and on any Board or member proposals that may be submitted. Candidates for the Board of Directors and sponsors of
member proposals must follow the LMOA petition process. For more information or to pick up a petition packet, please call Peggy
Alexander at 589-8263, ext. 111.

Fire Danger: Central Virginia is at a severe deficit for rain. The dry conditions make us even more vulnerable to wildfires, especially
in our wooded community with dry leaves everywhere. Already fires have broken out in numerous locations in the area, and high winds
have fanned them into very dangerous situations for life and property. Please be cautious in all that you do to keep our community
safe: Never toss cigarettes out of vehicles; keep a close eye on your barbecue grill to make sure no sparks escape; take care with
power equipment so it doesn’t ignite the dry leaves. Reminder: Lake Monticello enforces a no-burn policy all year round. For
information about the VA Dept. of Forestry Firewise program, see the website at www.firewisevirginia.org.
