Santi : So, what about you, Bayu? Do you have any plans?
Bayu : Definitely! My dad and I are going to go fishing. We plan to go fishing in a lake near my uncle's house.
Would you like to come with us?
Santi : I don't really like fishing. I would rather stay at home than go fishing. What about you, Riri? What
would you like to do on the long weekend?
Riri : I have made a plan with my mother about what to do on this long weekend. We are going to practice baking
cookies.
Bayu : Are you going to bake choco chips cookies like the other day?

Dear Fe!
I have a plan to go for a holiday trip to Cox’s Bazaar after my annual exams. I will go there with my parents.
First we’ll go to Chittagong by train and then from Chittagong to Cox’s Bazaar by bus. We’ll stay there for
three days. I’ll enjoy the natural beauty and the longest sea beach of the world. I’ll collect sea-shells,
pearls etc. from the sea beach. I’m also excited to enjoy the scene of sunrise and sunset in Cox’s Bazaar.
Many tourists visit Cox’s Bazaar every year. I’m now eagerly waiting for the completion of my annual
exams.

Social Function : Telling and asking about intentions of doing something is used to develop interactional
communication with others
Generic Structure :

ExpressiNG Intention biasa digunakan jika seseorang berniat melakukan sesuatu. Ada beberapa
ungkapan untuk menyatakan atau menanyakan niat melakukan sesuatu dalam bahasa Inggris yang
biasa digunakan, antara lain:

- What will you do after graduating from college? - I intend to …

Below, some other expressions about plan or intention
Expressing future plan/intention ; Mengungkapkan keinginan/maksud tertentu kitan dapat menggunakan
beberapa jenis ekspres :
a) Be going to : Be going to memiliki kesamaan dengan Will/shall pada Simple Future, Kata "Be Going
To" Untuk Menyatakan Rencana "Be going to" menyatakan bahwa ada sesuatu yang direncanakan.
Kata ini digunakan untuk menyatakan ide bahwa seseorang berniat untuk melakukan sesuatu di masa
depan. Tidak peduli apakah rencana itu realistis atau tidak. Contohnya:
Pola Umum/Pattern:
S + be (is, am, are) + going to + V1
He, she, it : is I : am You, they we : are
Contoh:
a. (+) Saras is going to visit Mount Bromo next week.
(-) Saras is not going to visit Mount Bromo next week.
(?) Is Saras going to visit Mount Bromo next week? Yes, She is/ No, She is not.

b. (+) Tom and Tim are going to go fishing tomorrow.


(-) Tom and Tim are not going to go fishing tomorrow.
(?) Are Tom and Tim going to go fishing tomorrow? Yes, they are./No, They are not.
Selain itu, “going to” juga dapat digunakan untuk menunjukkan tanda-tanda bahwa sesuatu
akan terjadi. Misalnya:
Look, he’s going to go left. His left blinker is on.
I bet Indonesia is going to win. The score is 4-0.
To Express a Prior Plan
Untuk menyatakan sebuah kegiatan yang sudah direncanakan sebelumnya (ada persiapannya), maka
kita bisa mengguakan ``be going to`` untuk membentuk kalimatnya. Berikut ini adalah rumusnya.
(+) Subject + Be going to + V1 + O/C
(-) Subject + Be not going to + V1 + O/C
(?) Be + Subject + going to + V1 + O/C
Berikut ini adalah contoh kalimatnya:
(+) She is going to visit her grandmother next month.
(dia akan mengunjungi neneknya pada bulan depan.)
(-) She is not going to visit her grandmother next month?
(dia tidak akan mengunjungi neneknya pada bulan depan.)
(?) Is she going to visit her grandmother on the next month?
(apakah dia akan mengunjungi neneknya pada bulan depan ?)
be + going to + simple verb
 statement form : I am going to finish my project this night.
(Aku akan menyelesaikan proyekku malam ini.)
 Question form : Are you going to join with me in writing essay contest?
(Apakah kamu bermaksud untuk bergabung denganku pada lomba menulis
esai?)

b) Will
To Express Willingness : Ketika kalian ingin menyatakan sebuah kehendak atau keinginan walau masih
sebatas wacana, gunakan will. Berikut ini merupakan rumus untuk membentuk kalimatnya:
(+) Subject + will + V1 + Object/Complement
(-) Subject + will not + V1 + Object/Complement
(?) Will + subject + V1 + Object/complement
Berikut ini adalah contoh kalimatnya:
(+) She will visit her grandmother on the next holiday.
Dia akan mengunjungi neneknya pada liburan yang akan datang.
(-) She will not visit her grandmother on the next holiday.
Dia tidak akan mengunjungi neneknya pada liburan yang akan datang.
(?) Will she visit her grandmother on the next holiday?
Apakah dia akan mengunjungi neneknya pada liburan yang akan datang?
Kata "Will " Atau "Be Going To" Untuk Menyatakan Prediksi. Kedua kata "Will" atau "Be Going to" dapat
mengekspresikan ide prediksi umum tentang masa depan. Prediksi tebakan tentang apa yang mungkin
terjadi di masa depan. Dalam "prediksi" kalimat subjek biasanya memiliki sedikit kontrol atas masa depan.
Dalam kedua contoh berikut, tidak ada perbedaan dalam makna yang disampaikan.
• The year 2222 will be a very interesting year.
• The year 2222 is going to be a very interesting year.
Contoh lain di mana “will” dan “going to” dapat digunakan secara bersama adalah:
• I think the traffic will be crowded tonight
• I think the traffic going to be crowded tonight
Kedua kalimat ini sama-sama memprediksi bahwa arus lalu lintas akan padat di malam hari.
Will + simple verb
 Statement form : I will make my own composter at home.
(Saya akan membuat pupuk komposku sendiri di rumah.)
 Question form : Will you attend the waste management workshop next week?
(Akankah kamu menghadiri seminar pengelolaan sampah minggu depan?)
c) Would like to : Would like to artinya ingin, mau bisa berarti akan dan memiliki makna yang hampir
sama dengan be going to. Pola Umum/Pattern:
S + Would like to + V1
Contoh:
a. (+) Father would like to stay in Jakarta next month.
(-) Father would not like to stay in Jakarta next month.
(?) Would Father like to stay in Jakarta next month? Yes, he would./ No, he would not.
b. (+) We would like to get married on April 25.
(-) We would not like to get married on April 25.
(?) Would we like to get married on April 25? Yes, We would./No, We would not.

Would like to + simple verb


 Statement form : I would like to present my mechanical project at this moment.
(Saya akan mempresentasikan proyek mekanik saya pada kesempatan ini.)
 Question form : Would you like to discuss about recycling bottles tomorrow at 10 a.m?
(Maukah kamu berdiskusi tentang pendaurulangan botol-botol besok pukul 10 pagi?)

d) Would rather + simple verb + than + simple verb


 Statement form : I would rather bring my own tumbler than buy mineral water.
(Saya akan memilih membawa botol minum sendiri daripada membeli air mineral.)
 Question form : Would you rather make a homemade food or buy instant food?
(Apakah kamu lebih memilih membuat makanan rumahan atau membeli makanan instant?)

e) Would prefer + Verb(-ing) + to + Verb(-ing)


 Statement form : I would prefer making a homemade food to buying instant food.
(Saya akan lebih memilih membuat makanan rumahan daripada makanan instant.)
 Question form : Would you prefer staying at home or going to the theater?
(Apakah kamu lebih memilih di rumah saja atau pergi ke bioskop?)
