Descriptive text : a text that describes a partiular person, place or thing. (teks yang
mendeskripsikan seseorang, tempat atau benda secara rinci).

Purpose / Function Of Descriptive Text

To describe a characteristic or person, place, or thing in detail.

Generic Structure of Descriptive Text

1. Identification : this part introduces to the subject (person, place, or thing) that will be
described. (berisi tentang identifikasi, perkenala,atau pengantar hal / seorang yang akan
dideskripsikan.)
2. Description : this part gives details of the characteristics features of subject. (berisi tentang
penjelasan / penggambaran tentang hal / seseorang dengan menyebutkan beberapa sifatnya, dan
ciri-cirinya).

The Characteristics / Language Feature of Descriptive Text:

– Specific participant : memiliki obyek tertentu, tidak bersifat umum dan unik (hanya ada satu)
misalnya : bandengan beach, my house, borobudur temple, uncle Joko
– Penggunaan adjective (kata sifat) untuk memperjelas noun (kata benda)
misalnya : a beautiful beach, a handsome man, the famous place in jepara dll
– Penggunaan simple present tense : Pola kalimat yang digunakan adalah simple present karena
menceritakan fakta dari obyek deskripsi.
– Action verbs : terdapat kata kerja yang menunjukkan sebuah kegiatan (aktifitasnya bisa
dilihat) misalnya : run, sleep, walk, cut dll.
