Structure of the
graduate nurse program
Our graduate nurse program has the following features:
~ Dedicated program coordinator
~ A comprehensive clinically focused 2 week
orientation program
~ Ward based Staff Development Nurses
~ Individualised professional development
planning and goal setting
~ Study days
~ Graduate forums
Clinical rotations
The 12 month development program consists of two rotations for both registered
nurses and enrolled nurses. These will give you the opportunity to gain experiences
in the following specialties:

~ Cardiac ~ Neuroscience/Neurosurgery
~ Thoracics ~ Ophthalmology
~ Vascular ~ Orthopaedics
~ General Medical ~ Paediatrics
~ Respiratory ~ Palliative Care/Oncology/Haematology
~ Transitional Care Unit ~ Plastics
~ Colorectal ~ ENT
~ General Surgery ~ Urology
~ Gynaecology ~ Day Surgery Unit

At the end of your graduate year, you have the option to apply for a specialty
placement in the following areas:

- Theatre
- Endoscopy
- Intensive Care Unit / Coronary Care Unit
- Day Chemotherapy Unit (IVY Suite)
- Cardiac and Vascular Intervention Laboratory (Cath Lab)

Registered Nurse or Graduate Enrolled Nurse, log onto www.gnc.health.wa.gov.au and apply

Intakes
Programs commence in January (RN) and August (EN) each year.

The selection and recruitment

process includes
- Review of your Graduate Nurse Connect application
- Interview
- Reference checking
- 100 point identification check
- Evidence of your ability to work in Australia
- Criminal Record Screening (Police Clearance)
- Working With Children check
- Review of your academic record

Eligibilty
Applicants must be:
- eligible for registration with the Nursing and
Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). Evidence
of registration must be provided to St John of
God Hospital Subiaco before you commence our
graduate nurse programs.
- an Australian citizen or have permanent residency
status at the time of application.
