From the USO
The USO activates Smiles over Miles cards on the
first Thursday of every month at our center on 9
Tallman Street in downtown Jacksonville for family
members of deployed service members (or those who
are getting ready to deploy) from 5pm - 8pm. We
have a kids room and the kids love to play while they
wait to record their video. We also have free pizza
provided by Pizza Hut!
The USO will also be recording DVD's as well as
passing out FREE Smiles over Miles cards! Smiles
over Miles cards are subscriptions to an online video
hosting site that is free, secure, and low-bandwidth. It
allows both the service member and their family
members to send recorded video, voice, and text while
deployed overseas. All you need is a computer, video
camera, and internet. During our Smiles over Miles
event, we also record DVD messages and send them
overseas for those who do not have access to internet.
The USO also offers Smiles over Miles card activa-
tions at AMCC Community Centers on base. Below is
the schedule:

M.T.E.S.T WEEKEND RETREAT!
NC Operation: Military Kids (OMK) program is
pleased to announce M.T.E.S.T. Level II (Military
Teens Engaging in Service through
Technology) weekend retreat! The weekend will in-
volve more in-depth photography, creating videos,
Improv, scavenger hunt, writing skills just to name a
few! You will reacquaint with friends from Level I,
meet other military teens from across North Carolina
and will experience a weekend of fun and hands-on
activities you can use back home.
Participants will explore downtown Raleigh as part of
their weekend.
M.T.E.S.T. Level II is designed for military teens ages
13-18.

Pharmacy and GNC closures

Due to construction work related to the MCX expan-
sion, GNC and the MCX Pharmacy will be closed on
Sunday, 3 April. Pharmacy Services WILL be avail-
able from 1200-1600 at the Naval Hospital Camp Le-
jeune Pharmacy. GNC will be open at the New River
Air Station from 1000-1800.

Infant & Toddler Car Seat Rental Pro-
gram: Do you have friend or relatives
arriving and need a car seat? Making a
transition from infant to toddler seats?
For $5 a month, for up to 3 months, you
can rent an infant or toddler car seat. Call
for details.
Mini Movers: This interactive parent/
child program designed for children 9
months -3 years. This group explores
movement through music, song, and fin-
ger-play and other fun activities in a sup-
portive environment. Group meets every
other Friday. $2, multi -child discount. Call
for details.
Kid’s Club: This program offers interactive
playgroups with snack for parents with
children ages 2-6. This group allows chil-
dren to interact and develop socially and
intellectually under supervision. $15 per
month, or $5 per session. Pre-registration
required.
Scrapbooking Hour: This hour allows
patrons of all ages to come together and
work on individual scrapbooking pages.
$5 includes one hour of time and up to
two scrapbooking pages, and use of the
ASYMCA scrapbooking materials. Call for
more details.
Sight for Students: Is your child in need of
eye glasses? If so, the ASYMCA partnered
with Vision Service Plan, provides free eye
exams and glasses for those who qualify.

Little Caterpillars: this interactive play
group is designed for 2-4 year olds, and
includes arts & crafts, music & singing,
story time, and playtime. Sessions are
held every Thursday from 8:20- 9:30 or 10
- 11:10. $2 per child. No pre-registration

Dry Brushing 101: Come learn the basic
ceramic dry brushing techniques or
paint at your own leisure. The ASYMCA
will provide all of the necessary sup-
plies and instruction. Every Tuesday
and Thursday from 1- 4:30pm. Prices
will vary depending on the ceramic
piece you choose. Call for details.
Make It & Take It: unleash your crea-
tivity and learn a new craft with the
ASYMCA. These sessions are held every
Monday and Friday from 2-4:30pm.
Suitable for a wide array of ages, and

Crafty Campers: This summer art pro-
gram allows 3-10 year olds to come
together to work with numerous crafts,
allowing them to grow creatively and

Home School Art Classes: These classes
allow children to explore different art
techniques, artists, and styles, all while
allowing the children to explore their
own level of creativity. Offered in 10
week sessions for children ages 3 and

Summer Scientists: In this class, 8-12
year olds will not only learn about the
fascinating world of science, they’ll also
conduct supervised science experi-
ments! Classes meet once a week for

Diaper Cakes: These 3 tier cakes are
made of disposable diapers along with
baby accessories for the new mom to
be. Diaper cakes can be ordered for a
boy or girl. Please give at least one
