Admission Requirements:

Admission Screening:

DBA candidates should successfully pass the DBA Admission Test which evaluates the qualities
of applicants through its verbal, quantitative and analytical sections. AAGSB selects from
among the highest ranked candidates with five years of experience as a minimum.

Admission Requirements:

• Master of Business Administration (MBA) or Master of Science (MS) in Business


Administration from an accredited university with a GPA of 3.0.
• Master degree holders in other than Business Administration have to take a number of
Deficiency Courses. The Academic Committee will specify these courses on a case by
case basis.
• Satisfactory performance on the DBA Admission Test which assesses applicants’
business language proficiency as well as their quantitative and analytical qualities – a
minimum score of 400 out of 600.
• A minimum of five years of relevant practical experience.
• Appropriate performance during the oral interview.

Program Credit Hours:

Duration:
The program spreads over three academic years as a minimum distributed as follows:

1. Two years (four semesters) of course work


2. Three months of advanced readings, by end of which students take a qualifying
examination
3. One year for the dissertation

DBA

The Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) focuses mainly on the application of


theoretical knowledge to the advancement of management and business practices. The DBA is
recognized by international business and management schools as the most appropriate post-
MBA due to its emphasis on combining academic research as well as management and
business practices to further develop personal and professional skills.

Program Structure:

Phase 1:
A DBA student should attain 36 credit hours pertaining to the following 12 courses (three
credits each) which fall in two categories:

Courses in functional areas:

1. Corporate Finance and Firm Valuation


2. Derivatives and Risk Management
3. Marketing Modeling and Theory
4. Advanced Strategic Human Resources
5. Corporate Performance Analysis
6. Global Management Systems
7. Operations Management

Courses in management techniques:


1. Research Methods and Philosophy of Science
2. Applied Statistics (Multivariate Analysis)
3. Applied Microeconomics
4. Organizational Analysis and Design
5. Modeling and Decision Making

Phase 2:
Advanced readings for three months followed by the Qualifying Exam which entitles the
students – on passing it - to the dissertation phase.

Phase 3:
Dissertation: 24 credit hours

DBA Academic Regulations


Academic standing in AAGSB Doctorate degree is governed by the following regulations:

Degree Requirements

1. Degree candidate students must complete 60 credit hours in a minimum of 6 and a


maximum of 10 semesters.
2. Students are due to complete all course work for the DBA degree within a minimum 4
and maximum 6 successive semesters before being eligible to start their advanced
readings phase.
3. Students are required to take 12 courses (3 credit hours each) during the Coursework
Phase. The courses cover seven functional areas in addition to five different
management techniques.
4. Students are required to attain a GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 by the end of the Coursework
Phase in order to proceed to the Advanced Readings Phase.
5. Advanced readings materials focus on the designated area of prospective dissertation.
Areas covered are: Marketing, Human Resources, Strategic Management, and Finance
and Investment. The Advanced Readings Phase lasts for a minimum of 3 months. By
the end of this stage, the student is required to sit for the Qualifying Exam.
6. The Qualifying Exam is graded as Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory. A student whose
performance is considered Unsatisfactory is given another opportunity to meet the
phase requirements. Otherwise, his/she will be required to discontinue his doctoral
studies and will be awarded a Master degree in Business Admininstration.
7. Students who were not successful in passing the test for the second time are allowed
to switch from one specialization area to another upon a recommendation letter from
the senior professor of the designated field in AAGSB.
8. Students, who finished 6 successive semesters and were not able to attain 36 credit
hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or more, must appeal to Graduate School of
Business Academic Committee (GSBAC) for an exceptional and additional semester to
fulfill their course work requirements.
9. Students, who finished the 10 successive semesters and were not able to attain the
required graduation requirements must appeal to Graduate School of Business
Academic Committee (GSBAC) for an exceptional and additional semester to fulfill
their degree requirements.
10. Students who have completed their requirements of credit hours but their
cummulative GPA falls below 3.0 are allowed to register a maximum of 3 courses in
order to improve their cummulative GPA.

Semester load & Course Work requirements

The maximum number of courses that any student can register per semester is three courses
(nine credit hours). In certain cases, a student could be allowed to register for less than 3
courses upon submitting a ‘Petition Form’ and receiving approval from the Dean of AAGSB.

Qualifying Exam Regulations

1. Students are required to declare their field of dissertation on the designated


Dissertation Declaration Form by conclusion of the fourth semester.
2. AAGSB will allocate a three-month period for students to comprehend the assigned
readings in their respective field of study in order to get ready for the Qualifying
Exam.
3. The Qualifying Exam is obligatory for all students who completed finished 36 credits
and attained a GPA of 3.0 or more as an assessment tool for digesting the assigned
readings in the respective area of dissertation. The Qualifying Exam is designed to
measure whether DBA candidates are able to:.
o integrate knowledge from different disciplines.
o analyze and interpret specialized knowledge.
o show competence in reflecting on real life cases concerning some areas of
specialization.
o suggest and defend expert recommendations in the area of specialization.
4. AAGSB may change the format when need arises.
5. During the exam, students are allowed to use different resources and technological
aids such as textbooks, computer laptops and handouts. Nevertheless, it is prohibited
for the students to consult their colleagues during the examReadings Phase lasts for a
minimum of 3 months. By the end of this stage, the student is required to sit for the
Qualifying Exam.
6. Grading of the qualifying exam is mainly based on the methodological and analytical
approaches of the students in extracting findings and adequate coverage of the
subject matter under investigation.
7. Students who successfully meet the standard shall receive a Satisfactory grade (S)
which will appear on their official transcript. Those who do not meet the standards will
receive an Unsatisfactory grade (U) which will also appear on their official academic
records.
8. Students with grade (U) shall be given another opportunity to take the Qualifying
Exam.
9. The Qualifying Exam is a degree requirement.
10. On passing the Qualifying Exam, students are entitled to be assigned a dissertation
supervisor.

Dissertation Development Regulations

1. Students must have completed 36 credits with a GPA of no less than 3.0.
2. Students’ cumulative GPA must equal 3.0 at least. Any student whose cumulative GPA
is less than 3.0 will not be allowed to register for the dissertation.
3. Students who fulfill all the previous requirements are assigned an academic supervisor
to assist them in developing the dissertation proposal. In writing the proposal,
students should adhere to the following guidelines:
1. Relevance: The selected topic should be relevant to the field of study
2. Interest: The selected topic should be interesting to the student and directly
related to his/her career interests and plans.
3. Feasibility: Topics should be limited to those that are possible and feasible for
the student to do within the expected time period.
4. The dissertation should be presented in an organized and concise manner.
5. Students should submit three copies of the dissertation proposal bearing the
supervisor’s signature to the Dean's Office prior to the allocated deadline for formal
registration of their proposals.
6. For further details, check the "Thesis Development Regulations Handbook” which is
located at the Library.
7. The AAGSB Academic Committee will review the proposals, and upon approval, the
dissertations are formally registered.
8. The academic supervisor will schedule meetings to supervise the students, assign
readings and follow up with students while developing their dissertations.
9. In writing the dissertation, student should adhere to the following guidelines
1. Requirements: students are expected to submit a dissertation of a maximum
of 160 pages excluding the cover page, the table of contents, the abstract, the
bibliography and the appendices.
2. Orientation: the study is a research oriented activity during which the student
is required to formulate the research objectives and adopt the appropriate
research techniques in order to present his /her analytical skills.
3. Guidelines for the dissertation format:
 Part I: The cover page
 Part II: Table of contents
 Part III: Executive summary
 Part IV: The main body which covers the following:
 Introduction
 Subject core including research methodology
 Main findings and conclusions
 Recommendations
 Part V: Bibliography
 Part VI: Appendices
10. Students should submit three copies of the dissertation, bearing the supervisor’s
signature prior to the allocated deadline to nominate the members of the Defense
Committee from the Dean's office.
11. On discussing and approving the dissertation, the student should submit 6 copies of
the final version for the purpose of granting the degree.
12. Students who have not finished their dissertations by the end of sixth semester are
allowed to continue working on their dissertations for one additional semester without
paying any fees. Students who fail to finish their dissertations by the end of the
seventh semester will have to register for 9 credit hours in the eighth semester and
pay the equivalent fees.
13. Dissertation in Progress will be recorded on the student’s transcript if the Dissertation
Phase is extended to additional semester(s), that is starting the eighth semester.
