GRATITUDE
n an effort to live up to the promise of the Harambe Bretton Woods Declaration and fulfill the mission of our Alliance,
the Harambe Entrepreneur Alliance held the fourth annual Harambe Bretton Woods Symposium.

The HBWS IV gathered young African social entrepreneurs attending top academic institutions in Canada, China, Germany,
Italy, South Africa, United Kingdom, and the United States. The fourth class of HEA Associates reflects the maturity and focus of
our “Dream on a Piece of Paper” and is a testament to the commitment and preparation of the next generation of African profes-
sionals.

HEA 2011 Associates are spearheading initiatives in 9 African countries and 8 different fields of interest: branding Africa, business
ventures, community development, education and ICT, health, micro-enterprise, women empowerment, and youth leadership.

Thanks to the support of HBWS Engagement Partners, GlaxoSmithKline and the Intel Corporation, the HBWS IV also marked
the launch of the first series of Harambe Fellowships and Headstarts, summer grants to propel the efforts of young African social
entrepreneurs.

This year’s Associates also enjoy the benefits of a more globally recognized brand, due in large
part to our prestigious gatherings in the British and Ghanaian Parliament held in October and
February respectively as well as our invitation to participate in President Obama’s Forum with
Young African Leaders at the White House in August of last year.

The successes and failures of the past four years have strengthened our ability to capture, inform
and engage the next generation of African professionals in the development of Africa and deep-
ened our commitment to the spirit of the Harambe Bretton Woods Declaration “yet in the end,
the Africa our generation desires can be won, it exists, it is real, it is possible, it is ours.”

Sincerely,
Okendo Lewis Gayle
