 The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, Hawaii December 1, 1947. The event was

significant because it officially brought both the U.S and the U.K into the war.

This made the U.S join the Allies in retaliation for the attack.

 The Battle of Normandy (D-Day) was June 6, 1944. This was significant because

over 155,000 Allied troops stormed Normandy’s beaches in a surprise attack that

eventually led to them breaking through the Atlantic wall.

 The orders by President Truman to drop the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima and

Nagasaki, Japan occurred July 25, 1945. This was significant because it officially

ended the war with the Axis powers as they admitted defeat in the face of the

American technological advance.

 One of the biggest historical events was on August 6, 1945. This was when the

cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were destroyed. The U.S dropped the bomb

nicknamed “Little Boy” on Hiroshima August 6 th and a second bomb “Fat Man” on

Nagasaki August 9th. Hundreds of thousands of people were killed and Japan

utterly surrendered.
