Guide lines for Seminar


(B.Tech. 6th Semester Electronics & Communication Engineering)

A. Seminar work description


The seminar deals with the research and development work in assigned area of professional
interest in the field of electronics and communication other than the regular course work. Each
student will work under the overall guidance and supervision of a seminar guide, a seminar
committee consisting of all the faculty members and a seminar coordinator. It would consist of a
well defined final report and a presentation. References and bibliography in the standard format
are to be included in the report. The aim of this seminar is to present and evolve the latest
technological developments and trends in the field of electronics & communication engineering.
The seminar envisages student’s knowledge about the current topic and the latest cutting edge
technologies in the field of electronics & communication engineering.

B. Operation of the Course


1. The student should select a suitable seminar topic. He/she should immediately chalk out a
plan of work in consultation with the guide. Current literature (journals, books, magazines,
websites etc.) must be methodologically reviewed.
2. Within one week of the start of semester the student should give his/her seminar synopsis
(one page) to the seminar coordinator in the Performa-1. If the student does not submit
his/her topic by the prescribed date then marks will be deducted.
3. The student should regularly interact with his/her seminar guide.
4. Two copies of seminar synopsis and final seminar report are to be submitted by getting
forwarded by seminar guide and seminar coordinator into the department library and
signature of library-in-charge will be taken before the presentation of seminar. Each
student should bring one copy of seminar report, seminar synopsis and final evaluation
form at the time of seminar presentation.
5. Utmost care should be taken in the preparation of the final seminar report. A check-list of
various items is provided and student should carefully go through these items. Seminar
guides are also requested to check and examine the draft of the final report keeping in
view the items in the check-list

C. Evaluation
Evaluation of the seminar is essentially individual oriented. The various instruments of evaluation
along with their weightages are given below:

seminar guide and seminar committee which can be changed by the seminar coordinator. Due
credit will be given for documentation of report. The other components are to be evaluated by the
guide and the details are to be made available to the seminar coordinator at the time of final
presentation of seminar. Guides should check the contents as per check-list and sign the certificate
page.
The evaluation will recognize the day to day work involvement and punctuality of the
student in his/her work. Evaluation in various components shall take into account work progress
and achievements, technical/ professional competence, documentation and expression. The
student should extend full cooperation to his/her guide and interact with him/her in advance about
the time, venue and mode of evaluation. He /she should be in constant touch with his/her guide.
D. Format of seminar report
The guide shall evaluate the various prescribed components of evaluation before submission of
final report. The final report and the performance are to be jointly evaluated by the seminar guide
and the seminar committee. The final report should reach to the seminar coordinator as per notice.
It is the responsibility of the student to ensure continuous interaction with his/her guide.
• For preparation of final report following guide lines can be used:
a. Number of pages in the Seminar Report should be in between 25 and 30.
b. Font Type –Times New Roman.
c. Font size:
12 for main text (Justified)
14 for headings and captions
16 for titles of chapters
d. Line spacing = 1.5
e. Use one side of A4 sheet
f. Page set-up:
i. Paper-A4
ii. Right margin = 0.5 inch and left margin =1.5 inch

iii. Top & bottom margin= 1.0 inch
iv. Paragraph shall start with right hand indent of 0.5.
• Prescribed format of the cover / title page and certificate from the guide should be
adhered to in the preparation of the final seminar report. Check-list of the items for
preparation of the final report is given in this brochure and the same should also be
consulted.

The following sequence may be followed in the preparation of the seminar report.

6. Table of contents with page numbers
7. Chapter1, 2, 3 etc.
8. Conclusion
9. Bibliography / References
10. List of publication(s) and conference presentations, if any
11. Appendices

G. Power point presentation for seminar
• Total Time Allotted : 12 Minutes (10+2)
 For Main heading/chapter: Font type: Verdana, Font size: 40 with Caption& Bold
 For sub heading: Font type: Arial, Font size: 24 with bold
 Main text : Font type: Arial, Font size: 24
 Only one diagram on one slide.

H. Check list of the items in final report


1. Is the report’s cover / title page in the proper format?
2. Is guide’s certificate in proper format? Has it been signed?
3. Is synopsis included in the report? Is it properly written?
4. Does the table of contents page include Chapter page numbers?
5. Does the report contain a summery of the literature survey?
i. Are the page numbered properly?
ii. Are the figures numbered properly?
iii. Are the tables numbered properly?
iv. Are the figures and table captions proper?
v. Are the appendices numbered properly?
6. Does the report have conclusion of the work?
7. Are the reference /bibliography given in the report?
8. Have the references been cited in the report?
9. Is the citation of references and bibliography in the standard format?
Attention should be paid on the above items while preparing the final report. Guides must ensure
that their students have prepared the final report properly.
