Allopurinal
Action: Allopurinol is used to treat gout, high levels of uric acid in the body
caused by certain cancer medications, and kidney stones.
Uses: Allopurinol comes as a tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken once or
twice a day, preferably after a meal.
Dosage: Tablet taken orally
Adverse effects: Skin rash
Contraindications: children, do not restart drug in pt's who show adverse
reactions
2. Aleve
(Naproxen)
Action: inhibits COX-1, COX-2 by blocking arachidonate, agalgesic, antiinflamatory, antipyretic
Uses: used for the treatment of mild to moderate pain, inflammation, and fever.
Dosage: Orally, 250-500 mg BID, max mg/day 1250
Adverse effects: dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, tremors, confusion
Contraindications: Pregnancy D, hypersensitivity
3. Aspirin
(ASA)
Action: Blicks pain impluses in CNS, reduces inflammation by inhibition of prostatglandin
synthesis
Uses: mild to moderate pain or fever including rheumatoid arthritis
Dosage: PO 3 g/day in divided doses q4-6hr
Adverse effects: stimulation, drowsiness, dizziness, confusion, seizures, coma
Contraindications: Pregnancy D, breast feeding, children <12 yr, children with flulike symptoms
4. Bacitracin
(Topical Antiinfective)
Action: Interferes with bacterial proteon synthesis
Uses: Skin infections, minor burns, wounds, skin grafts, primary pyodermas
Dosage:
Adverse effects: Rash, urtricaria, scaling, redness
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity, large areas, burns, ulcerations
5. Betadine
( Povidone-iodine)
Action:
Uses: Microbicidal against bacteria, fungi, viruses, spores
Dosage: varies
Adverse effects: dermatitis, irritation, burning

6.Benzocaine
(lanacane)
Action: inhibits conduction of nerve impulses
Uses: Topical anesthesia in local skin disorders
Dosage:apply to affected area
Adverse effects: rare hypersensitivity, local burning, stinging, tenderness
Contraindications: hypersensitivity infants<1 yr

(Topical anesthetic)
Action:inhibits conduction of never impulses
Uses: oral irritation, sore throat, toothache, cold sore, canker sore, sunbirn
Dosage: TOP apply QID as needed

Contraindications: hypersensitvity infants<1 yr, application to large areas
8.Baclofen
Action: Inhibits synaptic responses in CNS ny stimulating GABAb receptor subtype
Uses: Spasticity in spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis
Dosage: PO 5 mg TID x 3 days, then 10 MG TID x 3 days, then 15 mg TID x 3 days, then 20 ng TID x
3 days, then titrated to response
Adverse effects: Dizziness, weakness, fatigue, drowsiness, headache
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity
9.Celebrex
(celecoxib)
Action: Inhibits prostraglandin synthesis by selectively inhibiting cyclooxygenase 2
Uses: Acute, chronic rheumatoid arthritis, acute pain,
Dosage: PO 400 mg, then 200 mg if needed, then 200 mg BID prn
Adverse effects: Fatigue, anxiety, depression, nervousness, paresthesia, dizziness, insomnia
Contraindications: Pregnancy D, hypersensitivity to salicylates
