NOUN
Noun adalah kata benda. Dalam bahasa inggris dibagi menjadi beberapa klasifikasi sebagai berikut,

KLASIFIKASI BERDASARKAN WUJUD

 Concrete Noun : Benda-benda yang nyata, dapat disentuh

Examples : stone, head, hand, flower, dll

o Common Noun : kata benda umum yang kita jumpai dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.
Example : mosque, hat, car, book, flower, animal, chair, table, dll.

o Proper Noun : Merupakan nama-nama dari sesuatu.

Nama Orang Mr.Syarif, Amar, Zaid, Nina, Mrs. Reni, dll

Nama unit geografi Nil, Brantas, Pacific, Bali, Pare, Semeru, dll
Nama KWN & agama Dutchman, Christianity, Islam, Budha, dll
Nama hari & bulan August, Friday, Valentine Day, Ramadlon
Personifikasi Mother Earth, Nature, Forest.

o Material Noun : materi/zat yang merupakan bahan dasar dalam pembuatan sesuatu.
Example : water, sugar, sand, wood, gold, paint, oil, silver, iron, dll.

o Collective Noun : kumpulan daripada orang, hewan, atau sesuatu dan bersifat jamak.
Example : audience, committee, class, crew, team, people, jury, public, dll.

 Abstract Noun : Berupa konsep, ada dalam pikiran.

Examples : love, stupidity, hatred, justice, pleasure, dll.

KLASIFIKASI BERDASARKAN COUNTABILITY

 Countable Noun : Benda-benda yang dapat dihitung

Examples : letter, table, chair, leaf, bag, wife.

 Un-countable Noun : Sifatnya banyak, tak terhitung kecuali dengan takaran tertentu.
Examples : rice, sugar, blood, iron, English, mathematics, dll.

KLASIFIKASI BERDASARKAN JUMLAHNYA

 Singular Noun : berjumlah satu/tunggal

Example : girl, boy, widow, pen, book.

 Plural Noun : Jamak

Example : girls, children, mice, feed, feet, teeth, dll

Untuk penjamakan noun ada 2 jenis, ada yang teratur – Regular Plural (dengan penambahan –s atau
–es) ada yang tidak beraturan – Irregular Plural.

KLASIFIKASI BERDASARKAN BENTUKNYA

 Noun Compound : Gabungan dari 2 part of speech yang membentuk noun.

Example : bathroom, department store, blueprint, make up.

 Noun formed by adj. : Adjective/kata sifat yang berfungsi sebagai noun

Example : The poor grow poorer and The rich grow richer.

 Noun formed by verb : Disebut juga Gerund. Verb/kata kerja yang berfungsi sebagai noun.
Example : Smoking is a bad habit.

FUNGSI NOUN

1. Subject of Verb
Example: The girls love him so much.

2. Complement of Verb
 As Direct Object : I need money to buy a house
 As in-direct Object : Give that man some money!

3. Subjective Complement
Example: Gus Dur was the fourth president of Indonesia

4. Objective Complement
Example : People elected Jokowi president.

5. Object of Preposition
Example : The teacher laughed at the clown.

6. Noun in Apposition
Example : Mr. Hadi, my teacher, told me not to cheat.

7. Noun In Direct Address

Example : Maria, Please come here !

8. Noun Adjunct
Example : I am going to grocery store.
