Teaching and Learning Sequence

Introduction

• The teacher will start by asking the students the question “What is your favorite

holiday or celebration?” The teacher will then go to the board and write each

student’s responses.
• The teacher will give a brief introduction into some of the words that relate to

Spanish celebrations and write down some words that correspond to what the students

said. For example, if a student said that he or she liked Halloween, the teacher will

write Dia de Los Muertos in Spanish.

• The teacher will then display some examples of Spanish greeting cards which he or

she has bought at the local CVS or Rite Aid. There are many examples to choose at

these stores.

• The teacher will then surprise the students and tell them that they are going to make

their own greeting card. The intent is to use Spanish phrasing and Spanish idioms to

make their point.

Lesson Development

• The teacher will tell the students to log on to edu.glogster.com or….

• While they are doing this, the teacher will show his or her example to the class and go

through the details of the “glog” or card, and then go through the details of what the

students can do with glogster.

• The teacher will then walk around the room and make sure that students are getting

their work done.

• The students will use various forms of media to create a Spanish greeting card to

display to the class.

• The students will wrap up their glogs and email them to the teacher.

Closure
• The teacher will try to show as many glogs as possible for the class to view. A review

of key vocabulary will be shown and students will explain their individual cards to

the class.

Homework

Students will be assigned the task of going on the internet and looking up at least one

Spanish holiday or custom and writing a paragraph on it in Spanish.

Assessment

Formative

During the lesson, the teacher will go around and see what kind of vocabulary the

students are writing on their blogs. The teacher will ask various questions related to this

vocabulary.

Summative

Since students are using different holidays and customs, it is hard to get a grasp on where

a summative assessment can help. Therefore, it is best to give students the homework of

going home and researching a holiday or custom and then writing a paragraph on these

topics to be graded.
