ACADEMIC PROJECT

Bhabha Atomic Research Center (BARC), India

Plotting the Spatial Distribution of Back-Scattered Electrons inside a

vacuum chamber using Data Acquisition System

• A setup is prepared to collect the electrons backscattering from the target

material. We intend to plot a spatial distribution of backscattered electrons
depending on the backscatter current using data acquisition card.

• Based on the experiment conducted, it was found that the electrons are
gathering near the beam terminating position & hence some cooling system
may be used in order to prevent unnecessary heating of the vacuum
chamber.

• It was also observed that the density of electrons decreases with distance.
Effects of filament current also determine the position of the backscattered
electrons.

• This experiment is necessary from the point of view that backscattered

electrons are responsible for reducing the life of vacuum chamber; hence
using the results the life of vacuum chamber may be increased.

• Software Used: Visual Basic 6.0 & C

• Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP
