(Physiological) Before Duty

Stress, defined as an acute threat to the homeostasis of an organism, real (physical) or perceived

(psychological) and posed by events in the outside world or from within, evokes adaptive responses that

serve to defend the stability of the internal environment and to ensure the survival of the organism.

Eating before leaving the house has an advantage especially for the people work hard. According

to Darling (2011), breakfast is the most important meal in a day, because the body’s metabolic functions

slow down while a person sleeps. And so eating breakfast essentially wakes metabolism back up,

wherein it gives a body the fuel it needs to get through the day or at least until the next snack or meal.

According to Yvette Taché, Vicente Martinez, Mulugeta Million, and Lixin Wang (2001),

stress influences GI motility. Alterations of gastrointestinal (GI) motor function are part of the visceral

responses to stress. Inhibition of gastric emptying and stimulation of colonic motor function are the

commonly encountered patterns induced by various stressors. Activation of brain corticotropin-releasing

factor (CRF) receptors mediates stress-related inhibition of upper GI and stimulation of lower GI motor

function through interaction with different CRF receptor subtypes.

Many people say that Early bird gets the worm. Waking up early has a lot of benefits.

People who wake up early are more capable to do many things before going to work; they can

perform exercise, and able to have time for breakfast, which is the most essential meal

Guidepost (2009). Moreover, no one likes rush-hour traffic before going to work. In the morning,

traffic is much lighter, therefore they can go to work faster and thus save more time to do

necessary thing before start. But for those who are night shift, person who leaves early in the

house can handle stress more effectively, because they will surely arrive to the work place on

time.
