AATCC-8 2007
LIMITED P/No. 1 Of

1) Apparatus:- Crock meter, White cotton cloth, Grey scale for


Staining, White AATCC Textile Blotting paper
2) Specimen Size: 15 cm x 10 cm
3) Procedure: A) Dry Crocking
B) Wet Crocking

A) Dry Crocking:

(1) Fix the test specimen in the insert of crock meter.


(2) Mount the dry cotton cloth on the fingertip of the crock meter.
(3) Give 10 complete [20] turns.
(4) Remove the cotton cloth from the fingertip.

B) Wet Crocking:

(1) Fix the test specimen in the insert of crock meter.


(2) Wet the cotton cloth in distilled water (wet pick-
up to 65 + 5%).
(3) Mount the wet cotton cloth on the finger tip of the
Crock meter.
(4) Give 10 complete [20] turns.
(5) Remove the cotton cloth from the fingertip.

Evaluation: Evaluation the rating with Grey scale for staining.

2) Specimen Size: 14 cm x 5 cm
3) Procedure: A) Dry Crocking
B) Wet Crocking

A) Dry Rubbing:

(1) Fix the test specimen (Fabric/Yarn) on Crock meter by


Clamps in the long direction.
(2) Fix the dry Bleached rubbing cloth on the finger tip of
The crock meter.
(3) Rub to and fro in a straight line along a track with force of 9 N
for 10 times.
(4) Take out the dry rubbing cloth from device.
(5) Check the rubbing fastness by Grey Scale.

B) Wet Rubbing:

(1) Fix the test specimen (Fabric/Yarn) on Crock meter by


clamps in the long direction.
(2) Fix the wet Bleached rubbing cloth (wet pick up 100+-
5%) on the finger tip of the crock meter
(3) Rub to and fro in a straight line along a track with force
of 9 N for 10 times.
(4) Take out the wet rubbing cloth from device and dry at
room temperature.
(5) Check the rubbing fastness by Grey Scale.

1. Apparatus :- Laundrometer,Steel balls,Steel beakers,Maultifibre, Grey Scale


for staining (ISO 105 A03), Grey scale for color change (ISO 105
A02)
2. Chemical: - ECE Detergent, Sodium Perborate
3. Specimen Size:- 4 cm X 10 cm
4. Test Procedure:

(1) Prepare 4 g/l ECE Detergent + 1 g/l Sodium Perborate


(2) Cut the specimen in size 4 cm X 10 cm.
(3) Stitch the multifibre fabric on the specimen.
(4) Preheat the machine to 600C + 2 temp.
(5) Pour 50 ml solution of detergent in the steel beaker.
(6) Put the specimen in the steel beaker and add 25 steel
balls in it.
(7) Lock the steel beaker in the Laundrometer.
(8) Start the cycle as set on the machine that is at 60 0C for
30 min.
(10) After the completion of the cycle, remove the specimen
and wash one minute with tap water.
(11) Dry the specimen with multifibre at 600C.
(12) Condition it for 30 min.

Evaluation: Evaluate the rating of staining and color change with Grey scale.

COLOR FASTNESS TO WASHING


AATCC 61 2A 2003

1. Apparatus :- Laundrometer,Steel balls,Steel beakers,Maultifibre No -10, Grey


Scale for staining (ISO 105 A03), Grey scale for color change
(ISO 105 A02)
2. Chemical: - AATCC WOB Detergent, Sodium Perborate
3. Specimen Size:- 5 cm X 15 cm
4. Test Procedure:

(1) Prepare 1.5 g/l Detergent (WOB) Solution.


(2) Cut the specimen in size 5 cm X 15 cm.
(3) Stitch the multifibre fabric on the specimen.
(4) Preheat the machine to 490C if not at this temp.
(5) Pour 150 ml solution of WOB detergent in the steel
beaker.
(6) Put the specimen in the steel beaker and add 50 steel
balls in it.
(7) Lock the steel beaker and put in the Launder-Ometer.
(8) Start the cycle as set on the machine that is at 49 0C for
45 min.
(9) After the completion of the cycle, remove the specimen
and wash 3 times with distilled water.
(10) Dry the specimen with multifibre at 710C.
(11) Brush the specimen to orient the terry in test sample
direction.
(12) Condition it at 210C and RH 65+-2% for 60 min.

Evaluation: Evaluate the rating of staining and color change with Grey scale.

4. Test Procedure:

(1) Prepare 1.5 g/l Detergent (WOB) Solution.


(2) Cut the specimen in size 5 cm X 15 cm.
(3) Stitch the multifibre fabric on the specimen.
(4) preheat the machine to 710C if not at this temp.
(5) Pour 50 ml solution of WOB detergent in the steel
Beaker.
(6) Put the specimen in the steel beaker and add 100 steel
balls in it.
(7) Lock the steel beaker and put in the Launder-Ometer.
(8) Start the cycle as set on the machine that is at 71 0C for
45 min.
(9) After the completion of the cycle, remove the specimen
and wash 3 times with distilled water.
(10) Dry the specimen with multifibre at 60-710C.
(11) Brush the specimen to orient the terry in test sample
direction.
(12) Condition it at 210C and RH 65+-2% for 60 min.

Evaluation: Evaluate the rating of staining and color change with Grey scale.

Conditioning Racks, Measuring Tape
2. Chemical: - WOB Detergent,
3. Specimen Size:- Full Rug
4. Test Procedure:

(1) Take the Rug on the table and take the measurement in
Lengthwise & widthwise.
(2) Put the sample in automatic washing machine.
(3) Set the machine at Normal or Delicate for washing as
per care instruction.
(4) Add 66 gm WOB detergent powder.
(5) Start the washing machine and complete the washing
cycle.
(6) Place the sample with load in the tumble dryer and dry
it.
(7) Condition the dry sample for at least 4hrs.Take the
measurement lengthwise & widthwise.

Evaluation : Evaluate the shrinkage lengthwise, widthwise and border wise


shrinkage using formula as given below and compare it with the
norm.

2. Chemical: - Sodium Hypo chlorite, Distilled Water, Potassium di-
hydrogen phosphate, Disodium hydrogen phosphate
Dihydrate or disodium hydrogen phosphate decahydrate
3. Specimen Size:- 4 cm X 10 cm
4. Test Procedure:

(1) Prepare solution from sodium hypo chlorite 20mg/l,


50mg/l, 100 mg/l and pH 7.5
(2) 14.35 gpl (KH2PO4), 20.05 gpl (Na2HPO4.2H2O)
(3) Take above solution in steel beaker at the ratio of 100:1
(4) Put the test specimen in this solution and close the steel
beaker with container.
(5) Put steel beaker in Laundrometer at 27 0c+2. Run 1hrs.
(6) Remove the specimen and squeeze and dry it by
hanging it in air at room temperature.

Evaluation: Evaluate the rating with Grey scale for colour change.

CHLORINATED POOL WATER

1. Apparatus :- Cylinder, Grey Scale for staining , Grey scale for


color change , pH meter

2. Chemical: - Sodium Hypochlorite, Calcium Chloride, Magnesium


Chloride, Acetic Acid and Distilled Water
3. Specimen Size:- 6 cm X 6 cm Weight should be 5.0 + 0.25 gm
4. Test Procedure:
(1) Prepare Hard Water with 8.24 g/l Calcium Chloride +
5.07 g/l Magnesium Chloride.
(2) Take 50 ml of above solution and make it 5000ml.
Add
0.5ml Sodium Hypochlorite (5% Available Cl2) in it. The
available Chlorine required for this test 5ppm.
(3) Adjust pH 7.0 with Acetic Acid.
(4) Put the test specimen in the above solution for 60 min at
Room temperature.
(5) Remove the specimen and squeeze it to remove the
water.
(6) Rinse it with distilled water.
(7) Remove it and dry it by hanging in air at room
Temperature.

Evaluation: Evaluate the rating with Grey scale for colour change.

3. Test Procedure:

(1) Specimen condition at 65 + 2% Relative Humidity.


(2) Mount the Specimen in the Embroidery hoop.
Then place the hoop about 10 mm below the tip
of the burette.
(3) Then allow one drop of distilled water at 21°c
to fall on the embroidery cloth.
(4) At that time start the stopwatch when one drop
of water touch the surface and stop the stop watch
when disappear of water
(5) Take at least five readings.

1. Apparatus :- Light Fastness tester, Blue Wool Standard


2. Specimen Size: - 50 mm x 50 mm
3. Test Procedure:

(1) Stick the test specimen on the pieces of card.


(2) The card is placed with other rectangular specimen holder.
(3) It’s top is covered with spring to keep sample stripe in place.
(4) Insert the specimen holder in glass cage. And put the rubber
rectangular cap on the glass cage.
(5) Start the electric supply till temperature inside the instrument
reached about 400C.
(6) Start the water supply.
(7) Start the timer set it 60 hours.
(8) Remove the specimen after 60 hours.

Evaluation: Evaluation the rating with the blue wool standard.

1. Apparatus :- Embroidery Hoop (6 Inch) or more diameter, Stopwatch


Water Flow Tester, Base, PAN, Measuring cylinder of 50ml
2. Chemical: - Distilled Water
3. Test Procedure:

(1) Specimen condition at 65+-2% Relative Humidity.


(2) Mount the Specimen in Embroidery hoop.
(3) Mount the Specimen on the base.
(4) Then adjust the Flow water tester away from
specimen 3.0 + 0.2 cm.
(5) Then push the Pan against the base so all the water
goes in the PAN.
(6) Pour 50 ml water by measuring cylinder in Funnel,
attached with Flow Water Tester and allow 25 + 5
sec. Full water coming out at 60 angles.
(7) All the water not absorbed by the specimen
remaining water goes in to the pan.

Calculation:

Surface water Absorbency % = 50ml water – Remaining water in


pan/ 50*100

Disodium hydrogen orthophosphate decahydrate or

3. Specimen size: 4 cm X 10 cm
4. Test Procedure:

A) (ALKALINE METHOD)
a) Prepare 0.5 g/l L- Histidine Monohydrochloride Mono
hydrate C6H9O2N2.HCl.H2O) + 5 g/l Sodium Chloride +
2.5 g/l Disodium Hydrogen Orthophosphate
(Adjust pH 8 with 0.1 N sodium Hydroxide Solution)
B) (ACID METHOD)
b) Prepare 0.5 g/l L- Histidine Monohydrochloride
Monohydrate (C6H9O2N2.HCl.H2O) +5 g/l Sodium
Chloride + 2.2 g/l Sodium di-hydrogen Orthophosphate.
(Adjust pH 5.5 with 0.1 N Hydrochloric Acid Solution)

(1) Stitched the Multifibre on the specimen.

(3) Remove the specimen and squeeze it.
(4) Place the squeezed specimen between two plastic plates

(5) Apply 12.5-kpa pressure on the specimen.
(6) Put the perspiration tester in the oven at 37°c + 2°c for
4hrs.
(7) Remove the specimen from the oven and dry it by
hanging in air at a temperature not exceeding 60°c.

film with Petroleum Ether and Dry it.

1) Preparation of chromic acid solution

Take 11.8 gm Potassium Dichromate + 50 ml water + 25ml H2SO4 (98%)

2) NaOH 48-50 %

Take 2-3 drops of chromic acid solution on fabric or yarn. Then rub
it up to 20-30 seconds. Put 2 drops of caustic lye (NaOH-48 %) and rub it.

Result:
-If color is brown, then PVA is present.
-If color is green, then PVA is removed.

(3) Run for 5 min at RT. Then raise the temperature to 70 oC.
(4) Add salt as per Table-1 and raise the temperature to 98 oC and
run for 15 min.
(5) Then cool down the temperature to 70oC and drain the bath.
4. After treatment:
(1) Give cold wash to sample in tap water.
(2) Treat with 0.5-1.0 % of fixer at 55oC for 10 min adjust pH-5 to 5.5
(3) Treat with 1-2% of softener at 48oC for 15 min adjust pH-5 to 5.5.

per 1% depth shade for both.
(2) Add leveling agent and adjust pH-6.5 with buffer solution.
(3) Run for 5 min at RT. Then raise the temperature to 60 oC.
(4) Add salt as per Table-1 and raise the temperature to 98 oC and run
for 15 min.
(5) Then cool down the temperature to 60oC and drain the bath.
4. After treatment:
(1) Give cold wash to sample in tap water.
(2) Treat with 0.5-1.0 % of fixer at 55oC for 15 min adjust pH-5 to 5.5
(3) Treat with 1-2% of softener at 45oC for 15 min adjust pH-5 to 5.5.
(4) Dry the sample and label it.

3. Dyeing Procedure:
(1) Prepare 1% solution of standard and supply. Pipette out
as per 1% depth shade for both.
(2) Add leveling agent, Salt (As per table-2)and adjust pH-
6.5 with buffer solution.
(3) Run for 30 min at 60oC. Then add soda ash (As per
table-2).
(4) Run for 30 min at 60oC
(5) Drain the bath.
4. After treatment:
(1) Give cold wash to sample in tap water.
(2) Treat with 0.5-1.0 % of fixer at 55oC for 15 min adjust
pH-5 to 5.5
(3) Treat with 1-2% of softener at 45oC for 15 min adjust
pH-5 to 5.5.
(4) Dry the sample and label it.

(4) Then cool down the temperature to 60oC and drain the

Iodine Sol.n, Phenolphthalein Indicator 0.1 N Sodium
Thiosulphate Sol.n , hydro chloric Acid (Conc.)
3. Procedure : -
a) Take 9 ml Formaldehyde in a beaker.
b) Add 20 ml water and 2-3 drop of phenolphthalein Indicator.
c) Neutralize with 0.1 N Sodium Hydroxide till solution
turn from colorless to pink.
d) Add about 2 gm Sodium Hydrosulphite to it and make it to
250 ml in volumetric flask by adding water. Keep it for 15
min.
e) Take 25 ml Iodine solution in conical flask.
f) Add 10 ml Sodium Hydrosulphite solution from volumetric
flask and 4-5 drops of Hydrochloric acid (conc).
g) Shake it for 5 min.
h) Titrate against 0.1 N Sodium Thiosulphate solution .
i) End point –Dark Brown to Colorless . Note the reading B.
j) Take 25 ml of iodine solution in conical flask and Titrate
against 0.1 N Sodium Thiosulphate solution .
k) End point –Dark Brown to Colorless, Note the reading A.
Calculation Part: - Purity % by weight = (A – B) X 4.352 X 0.1 X 250

4. Test Procedure:

(1) Take the sample Rug to be tested & weigh the sample
and enough ballast to make a 1.8 ± 0.1 kg or 3.6 ± 0.1 kg as
per suitable weight.
(2) Put the sample ( with ballast load) washing machine.
(3) Set the machine at Normal or Delicate for washing as
per care instruction.
(4) Add 1.5 oz (42.5 gm) Sodium Hypo Chlorite & 1.5 oz
(42.5 gm) of AATCC WOB detergent powder.
(5) Start the washing machine and complete the
washing cycle.
(8) Place the sample with load in the tumble dryer and dry
it.
(9) Repeat the same for 3 times

Evaluation: Evaluate the color change with grey scale.
