Entrepreneurial Dynamism in Hospital Management: A Comparative Study between M.A.

G Osmani
Medical College Hospital and Jalalabad Ragib-Rabeya Medical College Hospital, Sylhet.

Abstract

Entrepreneurial dynamism plays an important role in initiating, running, successfully competing and
sustaining an enterprise through non substitutable maneuvering in the competitive markets and turbulent
environments. Entrepreneurs are the central figures in organizing and mobilizing resources, marshalling
risk-bearing activities with a view to creating surpluses, and applying the concept of innovation to
improve a nation’s standard of living, involving themselves in producing and distributing an assortment
of goods and services. As the catalytic agents they identify the market needs, develop programs to meet
them and dynamically bring together all kinds of resources to address all these issues effectively and
efficiently (Backman 1983). Dynamics of entrepreneurship can create value by shifting and utilizing
people, physical and information resources from outdated and low fashioned manners to the highly
sophisticated demand driven methods. According to Peter F. Drucker (1986) an entrepreneur searches
for, responds to and exploits changes through seeking opportunities in the competitive market to attain
the sustainability. Postrel (1998) opined that the future organization will emphasize on dynamism—the
process of constant creation, discovery and competition- to determine the political, intellectual and
cultural landscape. The present paper attempts to highlight how entrepreneurial dynamism can make
differences in demand for, access to and managing the resources in both public and private sector
hospitals management to innovate and attain the quality of healthcare services in Bangladesh. Managing
the key processes competently keep significant importance in the success of healthcare service. The best
way to build future success in the healthcare industry is to pursue diverse service ideas and turn the ideas
into innovations that will foster the quality and profusion of services in the competitive market.

The present study is based on the empirical data analysis on two cases of public and private sector
medical college hospitals namely, Sylhet M.A.G Osmani Medical College Hospital and Jalalabad Ragib
Rabeya Medical College Hospital in Bangladesh. To conduct the study survey method of research is used
where primary data relevant to the study were collected through predesigned interview schedule.
Interview is administered on selected doctors, intern doctors, administrative personnel, and patients or
their representative staying with them during the treatment period. The study determines the factors
relating to entrepreneurial dynamism in the hospitals management and after comparisons between the
performances of surveyed hospitals important suggestions have been provided to improve the health
service scenario in Bangladesh.
