year, on April 22, each division came up with inventive
ways to steward our planet.
Lower School students enjoyed a life-sized geography
lesson with a giant Earth Balloon. Twenty feet tall and cre-
ated using 10,000 satellite images of Earth taken from space,
the Earth Balloon traveled – deflated and folded in a sack
– from the Delaware Children’s Museum.
Students journeyed around the world in a day. “You begin
the presentation in one time zone, so by the end of the pre-
sentation, you’re in a different day,” said Kevis Mason, who
works in the museum’s education department.
Children explored the Earth Balloon from both outside and
in as Karen Bush, also from the Delaware Children’s Museum,
asked them questions: “Why can’t we see the whole earth
from here,” she asked first graders.
“Because it’s humungous!”
“Where would we have to go to see the Earth?”
“Space.”
“What’s the difference between the balloon and real Earth?”
“The real earth floats.”
With the students zipped inside the air-filled balloon, wide-
eyed, Bush pointed out the desserts and the forests, the
mountain ranges and the plains. “Mount Everest is still grow-

V olunteers from Har Zion Synagogue are shown as they prepare and serve their annual
Passover Sedar at Inglis House, on Belmont Avenue, in Philadelphia. Residents of all
faiths and their families were invited guests to share the Passover Sedar, a ritual obser-

The volunteers from Har Zion were led by co-chairs, Gladys Shubin and Barbara Berkowitz.
Approximately 40 guests were in attendance for the service conducted by Inglis House’s
Jewish chaplain, Cantor Naomi Hirsch, and enjoyed the sumptuous traditional Passover
meal.
