A: Using operational amplifier with the Wheatstone bridge to measure unknown resistance can be
more sensitive using the circuit shown in figure 1.
The differential gain of the basic amplifier should be high, and its common mode gain is as low as
possible. With such an amplifier, the gain can be fixed to that required by any transducer by connection
of external input and feedback resistors as shown in figure 1.
The first step in the balancing procedure is to set the amplifier gain to 1 and balance the bridge with a
variable resistance dc set to give 5V. Also set Rx to 1kΩ. Get the value of Rx.
Change the value of Rx by 10% increase and measure the out balance voltage.
Repeat the above by setting the gain to 10.
The sensitivity of a bridge is the ratio of the maximum expected change in the
output voltage to the excitation voltage. For instance, if VB = 10V, and the fullscale
bridge output is 10mV, then the sensitivity is 1mV/V.
