The aging process may cause physical, biological, and psychological changes in
the elderly, including dementia. Lack of cognitive activity involving thinking
activities increases the risk of dementia. The study aims to determine the
relationship between thinking activities and the incidence of dementia in the
elderly at the Posyandu in Krembangan Selatan, Surabaya. This study is an
analytic study with a research design using a cross-sectional method. The
variables are thinking activities as an independent variable, and the incidence of
dementia as the dependent variable. Thirty-five elders involved in this stud, and
they were taken using the Simple Random Sampling technique. The study uses
two types of questionnaires to collect the data about the thinking activity
questionnaire and the MMSE assessment. The study found that most of the
elderly, 33 elders (94.28%) have adequate thinking activities, and 29 elders
(82.86%) do not experience dementia. The Spearmen Rho test resumes that p-
values (0.000) < 0.05, and the coefficient correlation is 0.573, showing the
significant relationship between thinking activities and the incidence of dementia
in the elderly. It concludes that thinking activities may reduce the risk of dementia
in the. It is hoped that thinking activities will be further improved, through efforts
to increase the interest and motivation of the elderly to routinely attend the elderly
