Finality of Prophethood

Muhammad is not the father of any one of your men, but he is the Messenger of

Allaah and seal of the prophets. And ever is Allaah, of all things, Knowing. [33.40]

Thawbaan narrated that the Messenger of Allaah said: “The Hour will not be

established until tribes from my Ummah join the polytheists and worship idols. And verily,

there shall come from my Ummah thirty liars, each of them will claim ‘I am a prophet’ but I

am the seal of the prophets, there is no prophet after me.” [Sunan at-Tirmidhee, Sunan

Abee Daawud]

Aboo Hurayrah narrates that the Prophet said: I am given excellence

over the prophets in six respects; (1) I have been given Jawaami’ al-Kalim (brief but

comprehensive speech), (2) I have been helped by awe (in the hearts of my enemies), (3)

Spoils are made lawful to me, (4) the Earth is made for me a mosque and a means of

purity, (5) I have been sent to the entire creation, (6) and the prophets are sealed with me.

[Sunan at-Tirmidhee]
Anas ibn Maalik narrated that the Messenger of Allaah said: “Verily,

messengership and prophethood have been terminated, so there is no prophet after me,

and there is no prophet.” That seemed hard upon the people, so he added: “There is al-

Mubashshiraat (the glad tidings).” It was asked, “O Messenger of Allaah, what is al-

Mubashshiraat (the glad tidings)?” He said: “The dreams of a Muslim, and they are a

portion of the portions of prophethood.” [Sunan at-Tirmidhee]

‘Abdillaah ibn Abee Awfaa saw Ibraaheem, the son of the Messenger of Allaah

and said: “He died and he was little, and if there was to be after Muhammad

a prophet it would have been his son, but there is no prophet after him.” [Saheeh al

Bukhaaree: Kitaab al-Adab]

‘Uqbah bin ‘Aamir narrates that the Messenger of Allaah said: “If there was to

be a prophet after me, it would be ‘Umar bin al-Khattaab.” [Sunan at-Tirmidhee]

:

Jubayr ibn Mut’im narrates from his father that the Prophet said: “I am

Muhammad, and I am Ahmad, and I am Maahee, through whom disbelief is obliterated,

and I am Haashir through whom people are gathered, and I am ‘Aaqib and ‘Aaqib is the

one after whom there is no prophet.” [Saheeh Muslim]

Aboo Hurayrah narrates that the Messenger of Allaah said: “The Hour

will not be established until nearly thirty liars and antichrists arise, each of them claiming,

‘I am a messenger of Allaah.’” [Agreed upon]

The Messenger of Allaah said: “Whoever recites one-thousand verses in the

path of Allaah, Blessed and Exalted, will be written on the Day of Resurrection among the

prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the pious, and what an excellent company are

they, if Allaah the Exalted wills.” [Musnad Ahmad]

Mirzaa Ghulaam Ahmad writes: “I was Khaatam-ul-Walad for my father, after me no child

was born.” [Roohaanee Khazaa’in Vol. 21; Baraheen-i-Ahmadiyyah, Vol. 5, P. 113]

Mirzaa Ghulaam Ahmad Qaadiyaanee writes regarding Jesus : “That is, among the

Israelite prophets, he was the Khaatam-ul-Anbiyaa’.” [Roohaanee Khazaa’in Vol. 21;

Baraheen-i-Ahmadiyyah Vol. 5, P. 267]

Second Coming of Jesus

And indeed, he will be knowledge of the Hour, so be not in doubt of it, and follow

Me. This is a straight path. [43.61]

Ibn ‘Abbaas : “And indeed, he will be knowledge of the Hour.” Said: “The

coming out of Jesus son of Mary .” [Musannaf ibn Abee Shaybah]

In the Musnad of Aboo Daawud at-Tayaalisee: Narrated Aboo Hurayrah , that the

Prophet said: Jesus will stay upon the Earth after his descent for forty years,

then he will die. The Muslims will pray over him and bury him. [‘Awn al-Ma’bood Sharh

Sunan Abee Daawud]

Ibn ‘Abbaas in interpreting a hadeeth, narrates that the Messenger of Allaah

said: “At this my brother Jesus son of Mary will descend from the sky.” [Kanz-ul-

‘Umaal: Vol.14, P.619, No.39726]*

*Mirzaa Ghulaam Ahmad Qaadiyaanee quotes this narration in Roohaanee Khazaa’in Vol.7, P.314;

Hammaamat-ul-Bushraa P.148, but changes the phrase “from the sky” to “upon the mountain”
The Prophets are paternal brothers; their mothers are different but their religion is one. I,

more than any of mankind, have more right to Jesus, son of Mary, for there was no prophet

between me and him. He will descend, and if you see him, recognize him. He is a well-built

man, (the color of his skin) between red and white. He will descend while wearing two

long, light yellow garments. His head appears to be dripping water, even though no

moisture touched it. He will break the cross, kill the pig, and abolish the Jizyah, and will

call the people to Islam. During his time, Allah will destroy all religions except Islam and

Allah will destroy the Anti-Christ. Safety will then fill the earth, so much so that the lions

will mingle with the camels, tigers with cattle and wolves with sheep. Children will play

with snakes, and they will not harm them. Jesus will remain for forty years and then will

die, and Muslims will offer the funeral prayer for him. [Musnad Ahmad]
And the wolf will actually reside for a while with the male lamb, and with the kid the

leopard itself will lie down, and the calf and the maned young lion and the well-fed animal

all together; and a mere little boy will be leader over them. And the cow and the bear

themselves will feed; together their young ones will lie down. And even the lion will eat

straw just like the bull. And the sucking child will certainly play upon the hold of the

cobra; and upon the light aperture of a poisonous snake will a weaned child actually put

his own hand. [Bible: Isaiah 11:6-8]

Narrated Aboo Hurayrah that the Messenger of Allaah said: “By Him

in Whose Hand is my soul, without a doubt the Son of Mary will descend among you as a

just ruler. He will break the cross and kill the swine, and abolish the Jizyah. Money will be

in such abundance to the extent that no one would accept it, and a single prostration will

be better than the whole world and everything in it.” Then Aboo Hurayrah said: “And

recite, if you wish: And there is none from among the People of the Book except that

they will believe in him before his death, and on the Day of Resurrection he shall be

a witness over them.” [Saheeh al-Bukhaaree]

Aboo Hurayrah : “To make it manifest over all other religions.” Said: “The

coming out of Jesus .” [Musannaf ibn Abee Shaybah]

Umm Salamah narrates: I heard the Messenger of Allaah say: “The

Mahdee is from my descendants, from the progeny of Faatimah.” [Sunan Abee Daawud]

When the Messenger of Allaah went out for the Battle of Hunayn, he passed

by a tree belonging to the polytheists. It was known as Dhaat Anwaat. They used to hang

down their weapons over it. It was said, “O Messenger of Allaah, make for us a Dhaat

Anwaat as there is for them a Dhaat Anwaat.” He said, “Glory be to Allaah! This is just as

what the people of Moses said, ‘Make for us a god as there is for them a god.’ By Him who

has my soul in His Hand, you will perpetrate the practices of the people gone before you.”

[Sunan at-Tirmidhee]
So the Messenger of Allaah said to ‘Alee: “Are you not pleased that you are to

me as Aaron was to Moses, except I am he after whom there is no prophethood.” [Saheeh

Muslim: Kitaab al-Fadhaa’il as-Sahabah]*

*This hadeeth indicates that although Prophet Aaron died before Prophet Moses , he is still

likened as being a prophet after Moses. Therefore, although Prophet Muhammad died before

Jesus , this does not change the fact that our Prophet Muhammad is the last prophet

after whom there is neither any prophet or prophethood. Also the Prophet Aaron was not an

independent prophet who brought any sharee’ah, he was under the sharee’ah brought by his brother

That He may pay them their wages in full, and give them (even) more, out of His

Grace. Verily! He is OftForgiving, Most Ready to appreciate [35:30]

Say O My servants who believe, fear your Lord, good is for the good in this world,

and the Earth of Allah is spacious. Verily, those who are patient will receive in full a

reward without account. [39:10]

And for all, there will be degrees according to that which they did, that He may

recompense them in full for their deeds. And they will not be wronged. [46:19]
