Saturday, May 14 FROM OUR PASTOR
5:00 pm Chris Kenny—Graduation
SUNDAY, May 15 This Fourth Sunday of Easter is called Good Shepherd
7:30 am John S. Myers Sunday because the Gospel reading is always taken

11:00 am Felix Nassar compares himself to a shepherd who leads his sheep

Vocations which this year has the theme: “Proposing
Vocations in the Local Church”.
Tuesday, May 17
9:00 am Paula Reedee In his message for this day Pope Benedict points out that vocations start with

“Vocations to the ministerial priesthood and to the consecrated life are

9:00 am James Cragan
In our school each class takes the “vocation cross” for a week at a time and
Saturday, May 21 promises to pray for vocations to the priesthood and the religious life each
5:00 pm Frank Borrell day. Our Rosary Group, meeting before Mass every morning, also includes
SUNDAY, May 22 vocations among their daily intentions; and I am aware of homebound
7:30 am Annie Park parishioners who make a special point of praying for priests. However, the
9:00 am St. Charles Parishioners Pope also mentions “Christian families” and I wonder if we could do more.
11:00 am Carol Imbriani Certainly all of us should make a conscious effort to pray for vocations, but
12:45 pm Luis Rivera there is something especially powerful about prayer for vocations in families
with young and adolescent children. First of all, families who pray for
vocations are not going to be so surprised if one of their own children hears
PARISH EVENTS the call. Secondly, it is only young people who have been formed in the
habit of regular prayer who are likely to be able to hear God’s invitation.
Sunday, May 15
6:00 pm J.A.M. (UR) The Pope also speaks of the importance of supporting vocations by our
7:00 pm RCIA (PLR) interest and enthusiasm:
7:00 pm Confirmation Meeting (C)
“Particularly in these times, when the voice of the Lord seems to be

7:00 pm Ministry to the Sick Mtg (BGH)
7:00 pm Evangelization Mtg (CR) Pope Benedict concludes: “The ability to foster vocations is a hallmark
of the vitality of a local Church. With trust and perseverance let us

invoke the aid of the Virgin Mary, that by the example of her own

who is constantly calling new laborers to his harvest”.
7:00 pm Spanish Prayer Group (BGH)
Sunday, May 22 Let us do everything we can to pray for and encourage vocations; let us hope

discernment either in a diocesan seminary or in the novitiate of a religious
