CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION OF THE REPORT

Organization Overview:
Dutch-Bangla Bank is a second generation commercial private Bank. During the period of its
operation, this bank creates a milestone of success in banking sector. This bank holds an
experienced team of banking professional. They achieve this success because of their
experienced banking professional team, proper management & so on.

Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited is a Bangladesh–Netherlands joint venture scheduled


commercial bank established in Bangladesh with the primary objective to carry on all kinds
of banking business in and outside of Bangladesh.

Starting with one Branch in 1996, DBBL has expanded to thirty nine (39) branches including
nine Branches outside of the capital. To provide client services all over Bangladesh it has
established a wide correspondent banking relationship with a number of local banks. To
facilitate international trade transactions, it has arranged correspondent relationship with
large number of international banks which are active across the globe. 

In addition to its banking activities, Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited takes part in different national
activities promoting sports, culture, social awareness, etc. Participation in these activities as
sponsors is part of its business development policy.

1.1 Background of the report:


As a part of the course Research Methodology every student has to prepare a research
proposal and also prepare a report through theoretical knowledge and practical revelation.
The perfect coordination between theory and practice are a paramount importance in the
context of modern business world as regards to resolve the dichotomy between these two
areas.

DBBL is the first Bangladeshi-European joint venture banking company incorporated in


Bangladesh on 4th July 1995. Primarily the bank is a public company limited by shares
under Company Act 1994. It also guided by the bank company act 1991 (and its subsequent
amendments) and Bangladesh bank ordinance 1972, so as to enable the company for doing
business.

1.2 Origin of the report:


Now it is the era of Business & Technology. To keep pace with the Education system has
become more and more practical and as a result practical knowledge has got priority. The
course contains indispensable practical orientation in different organizations as a part of the
MBA Program.

1.3 Statement of the Problem:


The objective of this report is to give a clear scenario of the banking Activities of DBBL in
Bangladesh perspective. And to study elaborately the overall performance of different
departments of DBBL. Furthermore the report will be providing some analysis and hence
suggestions on how to develop their performance as well as service quality to ensure
maximum customer satisfaction.

1.5 Objectives of the report:


As business student it is indispensable to undergo some practical study like this for the purpose
of having flavor of professional atmosphere and make rectification, as required.
The specific objectives of the study are:

2 To observe and study various desk works of the Bank


3 To get a brief experience about the environment and trends of an organization.
4 To present how this bank is operating in online & contributing to our country.
5 To describe how this bank is offering and attracting to customers.

1.6 Scope of the report:


Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd. is one of the leading banks in Bangladesh. The scope of the study
will be limited to the Gulshan branch only. The report will cover the organizational
structure, background, functions and the performance of the branch as well as the bank. The
scope of the study is just to acquaint with the operational scenario of DBBL, particularly in
Gulshan Branch. For the bindings of security all the data could not be enclosed with the
report.

1.7 Limitations of the report:


There is a level best effort to provide the best picture of the General Banking as well as an over
all performance of DBBL regarding the subject matter.

METHODOLOGY
This part highlights how the research has been conducted. Some fundamental steps have
described for collecting, analyzing and designing the proposal.

2.1 Methodology of collecting data:

Sources of information will come from both primary and secondary information.

Primary sources: Primary sources are employees and executives from the bank.
Following factors are being considered to collect information:
1 There is informal conversation with the clients.
2 Practical work exposures form the different desks of the various
departments of the Branch covered.
3 Relevant file study as to be provided by the officers concerned.

Secondary sources: Secondary information to be collected from following ways.


1 Annual Reports of DBBL Bank LTD.
2 Periodicals published by Bangladesh Bank.
3 Also from the web sites. www.dbbl.com.bd

Recommendations & Conclusion:


Dutch-Bangla Bank Limited is one of the most potential Banks in the banking sector. It has a
large portfolio with huge assets to meet up its liabilities and management of this bank is
equipped with the export bankers and managers in all level of management. So it is not an
easy job to find out the drawbacks of this branch.
