 Safety  Assignment:
Hazard  Map  of  Your  Work  Site

1. Identify  and  map  hazards  to  workers  on  your  job  site.  If  you  do  not  have  a  job,  you
may  use  the  school  or  a  work  site  of  your  choice.
2. Ask  employers  and  employees  what  hazards  you  might  find  in  there.
3. Ask  the  employer  what  the  organization  does  to  control  the  hazards  and  prevent
injuries  and  illnesses  to  workers.
4. If  they  list  the  effects  of  hazards  (e.g.  cuts,  burns)  try  to  get  them  to  say  what  would
cause  the  effect  (e.g.  knives,  hot  grills).
5. Make  sure  the  list  includes  health  hazards  as  well  as  safety  hazards.
6. On  a  large  sheet  of  paper  or  poster  board,  reconstruct  your  work  site  with  possible
hazards.  Draw  the  floor  plan  of  different  areas  of  the  workplace,  including  doors,
windows,  walls,  major  equipment  and  furniture,  etc.  Once  the  floor  plan  is  drawn,
indicate  where  the  potential  health  and  safety  hazards  are  by  circling  the  hazard,
writing  in  words,  or  using  symbols.  Using  visual  representations,  identify  the  hazard
and  the  category  of  the  hazard.
