The urban sprawl of the municipality has expanded into the neighborhood of the Matadero which was originally located outside of Existing Site Layout: city limits. Most of the land area on the project site is either already occupied or being used. The major structures are illustrated in the image here. It was discovered that an older septic tank was buried south of the Matadero building.

Facultative Pond (located on the Free Water Surface Sub-Surface Flow soccer field): While in country, MARK gathered data by: Surveying Public survey Soil Sampling Water Testing Remaining feasible solutions & setbacks Flow Estimating (Mass Balance) • Traditional septic tank for primary treatment Too high BOD5 & TSS loading; will not fit on property • Facultative pond for secondary treatment Too high flow rate; will not fit on property Operation MARK recommends three alterations: The Matadero is a cattle 1. Water conservation practices slaughterhouse funded and • The Matadero flow would be reduced by approximately 60% by operated by the local Colcapirhua installing shut off nozzles on hoses and aerators on the faucets municipality. Currently, the waste is Water Sampling and Testing: 2. Prescreening system piped through a series of chambers Sample 1: Large sedimentation chamber • A screen bucket at the trench drain and strainers on the sink drains of on the Matadero property before it 3 Effluent Options to be researched by others: Sample 2: Inside slaughterhouse, within pipe network, remove larger solid particles and reduce the TSS. is pumped and discharged without Return to Pampamayu Canal Sample 3: Inside pump station 3. Reuse of existing system treatment into a nearby river. Future integration into domestic wastewater treatment plant Sample 4: Rio Rocha, downstream raw sewage discharge • The Matadero BOD5 loading would be reduced by approximately 30% Holding tank
