The Deming prize was established in 1951 to recognize quality achievement n Japenese organization.
The award was named to honor Deming, the leading thinker and innovator who helped Japan to
overcome the economic crisis after World War II.
Similarly to the Deming Prize the U.S government established the Malcom Baldrige National Quality
Award to promote awareness of quality excellence, to recognize quality achievements of U.S companies.
Differences:
The Quality Management Criterion “Bench marking” is not considered in Deming. However, this
criterion is used in EU & MBNQA award.
The “Organization Culture” is not considered in MBQNA,but used in EU & Deming Award.
The MBQNA emphasizes customer perception and the bottom line emphasizing while Deming
not.
The Baldrige award has a stated objective of sharing information while the Deming Prize doesn’t
The EU Quality award adds a societal element lacking in Deming & MBQNA.
EU is more international then either Japan or the United States.

The dual goal of the U.S and criteria are to improve value to customer, which results in marketplace
success, and to improve overall financial and company performance to meet the needs of shareholders,
owners and other stakeholder.
