    Sotheby’s Sale of 20th Century British Art yesterday achieved a total of £4,580,325 ($7,389,896). The auction established sell-through rates of 73.7% by lot and 84.1% by value, and set a new artist record at auction for Ceri Richards, achieved with her Interior with Piano, Woman and Child Painting (sold for £265,250, estimated at £100,000-150,000). The sale included a group of six works sold to benefit the Kettle’s Yard Development Appeal, each donated by artists and collectors, including Antony Gormley, Damien Hirst and Mona Hatoum. Commenting on yesterday’s sale, Director of Kettle’s Yard, Michael Harrison said: “We are delighted with the results of the sale at Sotheby’s and are extremely grateful for the generosity shown by the artists who donated works, which were sought after in the auction room – it was thrilling to see Antony Gormley’s sculpture fetch a sum well in excess of its pre-sale estimate. We are very excited to be one step closer to embarking on the building of a new education wing, an expanded art library, a project gallery and proper collection store at Kettle’s Yard.”
