use of contemporary ADP and voice telecommunication resources.
Assistant site manager supervising staff consisting of computer programmer, comp
uter operator, five production control clerks, and two data entry/receptionists.
Assign and monitor work performed by each site member and report progress to si
te manager. Evaluate performance annually.
Initiated and served as chairperson for nationwide Teleconference for technology
transfer among EPA system managers. This provided a forum for opening communic
ations between managers nationwide, and allows for distribution of information p
ertaining to hardware and software utilized at each EPA facility nationally. Pe
rsonal functions require maintenance of a comprehensive management distribution
list, monitoring of the conference proceedings, and the production of technical
abstracts for distribution.
Upgraded VAX 11/785 to a clustered environment consisting of a VAX 4000-500, two
VAX 3100-40's, two Info Servers, two CD ROM readers, a total of 7 gigabytes of
disk storage, three tape drives, laser printers, terminal servers, terminals, a
nd other peripherals. Responsible for all aspects of the VAX conversion includi
ng equipment evaluation, purchasing and installation. Performed upgrade of VMS o
perating system to 5.5-1, rebuilt system startup files, created new print and b
atch queues, and installed new system software.
Responsible for development and implementation of the ETHERNET fiber optic LAN p
lan. Installed DEMPRs, DELNIs, and FOTs (fiber optic transceivers and cable).
Responsible for supervision of on-site switch over from FTS to FTS 2000 telephon
e network. Upgraded voice telecommunications PBX from NEC 2400 with 2600 operat
ing system to NEC 2400 with 5200 operating system.
Installed PMDF software for E-MAIL access with INTERNET networks along with upda
tes to SAS, Word Perfect, and FOCUS as released.
Systems manager for VAX 11/785, with approximately 90 users and 20 special accou
nts. Software development resources include FORTRAN, BASIC, WORD PERFECT, FOCUS
, SAS, AND DCL.
Telecommunications manager with responsibilities for DECNET hardware and softwar
e, SNA communications software, programming and operation of NEC NEAX 2400 IMS,
PBX system.
Conducted feasibility study concerning the installation of fiber optics for redu
ction of lightning related equipment failures.
Assumed DEC PDP 11/70 systems management responsibilities, supervising staff of
eight pertaining to computer operations, data entry, and computer maintenance.
Assumed telecommunications management responsibilities for laboratory. Identifi
ed and isolated Wide Area Network (WAN) linkage failures throughout the United S
tates, and was responsible for taking corrective actions pertaining to local sit
e failures.
Responsible for conversion from DEC PDP 11/70 to VAX 11/785, with modification o
f FORTRAN programs for required compatibility with VMS version 4.2. Developed
IBM JCL to interface with the EPA IBM 3090 mainframe at Regional Triangle Park,
North Carolina. Developed hardware and software protocols between Lexitron word
processors, IBM personal computers, and DEC PDP 11/70. Installed FOCUS databas
e management system and provided on-site user seminars.
Personally installed lightning arresters throughout the facility requiring the p
hysical wiring of protection into the VAX and linkage wiring to each peripheral
site.
Developed numerous FORTRAN systems for scientific experiments and database manag
ement systems for research and administrative personnel.
Identified and repaired hardware consisting of printers, modems, and various ana
lytical scientific equipment.
Using a PDP 11/70 computer and FORTRAN and BASIC languages, developed a monitori
ng system of wetlab data for EPA scientific personnel enabling 24 hour surveilla
nce using existing telecommunications facilities. Developed and monitored calib
ration schedules and log books for quality assurance of computer generated data.
Interfaced Tektronix 4051 wetlab controlling computer with DEC PDP 11/70, enab
ling compatibility of the two systems.
Assisted Federal Program to State Departments of Education concerning asbestos r
emoval in all state education facilities. Responsible for assisting and supervi
sing federal grant administration. Received letter of commendation from the com
missioners of education of both New Jersey and Florida for the contribution to t
heir programs.
Developed Wetlab Automation system. Required collection and statistical analysi
s of data from individual test areas, and outside peripheral sites incorporating
3-D plots, multiple Tektronix 4051 micro-computers and associated peripherals,
a FLUKE 2240C data logger, and individual sensing equipment.
Installed IAS operating system and communication package on HP 1000, and develop
ed a database management system for LAS 3357. Wrote FORTRAN programs using PLOT
10 package which was and installed at a remote EPA laboratory. Various other p
rogramming tasks on DEC PDP 11/70.
