Professional Experience
Department of Neurology, University of Michigan, MI (9/2005-07/2010)
Research laboratory Specialist Senior
*Conducting experiments to evaluate the effect of gene therapy on the regenerati
on of spinal cord after injury, neuropathic pain and neurodegenerative disease.
*Studying new mechanisms of microglial activation in neuropathic pain, and mech
anisms of cell death after spinal cord injury.
*Independently plan and design experiments with little supervision.
*Independently conduct a variety of molecular cell biology, virology and biochem
istry experiments
*Teach graduate students and laboratory technicians about molecular cell biology
and biochemistry experiments assisting them to troubleshoot daily work
*Assist the Principal Investigator get NIH R01 grant awards and review scientifi
c articles
Department of Neurology, University of Michigan, MI (07/2004-09/2005)
Research fellow
*Expertise in molecular cell biology, virology and biochemistry experiments
*Able to handle multiple experiments in limited time frames and complete tasks w
ithin projected deadlines
*Conduct experiments with patience and accuracy
*Document research results in an accurate and concise manner
*Establish and invent new techniques to improve existing methods for fulfilling
the project's needs and strengthening the compatibility of the entire laboratory
Department of Neurology, University of Pittsburgh, PA (11/2001-06/2004)
Research fellow
*Conducted experiments to study the protective mechanism of HSP27 in stroke.
*evaluate the effect of protein therapy on the stroke. I generated four biolog
ically active fusion proteins (Hsp27, MnSOD, Survivin, xIAP and JBD) containin
g the 11 aa protein transduction domain (PTD) derived from the human immunodefic
iency virus TAT protein, which can pass BBB. In vitro study, I found that Hsp27
protect neuron against cell death through blocking AIF release from mitochondria
. In vivo systemic delivery of Hsp27 fusion protein protects against focal ische
mic injury and inhibits an apoptotic component of ischemic neuronal death after
injected intraperitoneally.
*Plan and design research projects
*Protein purification
*Learn and handle basic molecular biology experiments
*Learn English writing skills for scientific papers
Department of Neurology, Huashan Hospital, Shanghai Medical University, Shangha
i, China (7/2000-11/2001) Attending Physician of Neurology
*Expertise in diagnosing and treatment of patients who have various neurological
diseases.
*As an attending physician, participate in the daily teaching for medical fellow
s, residents, and students to diagnosis and treat patients with neurological di
seases
*Teach internal medicine class (neurological disease section) for medical stude
nts
*Plan and design four clinical III stage trails with department director and ind
ependently summarize the data of these trials
*Teach and supervise graduate students for basic research
*Contributed to the writing of a medical text book (Neurology)
