Project Experience
Repair Vehicle Maintenance Facility - Project Manager
The Repair Vehicle Maintenance Facility project at the Colorado Air National Gua
rd post in Greeley, CO was an existing facility in need of a complete renovation
. The facility was shared by a nuclear surveillance unit and the posts vehicle m
aintenance crews. The project consisted of flooring, wall, ceiling, mechanical,
electrical, and plumbing demolition. The existing vinyl composition tile was pla
ced with asbestos-contaminated black mastic, requiring remediation to be perform
ed. New mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems were insta
lled throughout. A new floor plan with offices, restrooms, and a break room was
constructed. Construction took place as the nuclear surveillance unit conducted
their duties on a daily basis, therefore, noise and dust control were crucial to
the projects success. Raised access flooring, new dividing walls, and additiona
l fire protection was installed in the high-security surveillance area while the
unit was working. The total cost of the project was $727 thousand.
EPA National Enforcement Investigations Center - Project Manager
The Environmental Protection Agencys National Enforcement Investigations Center
(NEIC) at the Denver Federal Center is the only environmental forensic center ac
credited for environmental data measurement activities. The facility is an addit
ion to the existing National Enforcement Investigations Center. It adds approxim
ately 2,000 square feet to the center, and provides additional laboratory space,
a command center, a shower facility, locker space, and a new shipping/receiving
dock area. The project incorporates highly specialized mechanical systems and c
onstruction techniques. The NEIC often handles highly volatile samples that can
contaminate, and sometimes kill surrounding populations. Inside walls are built
to be air-tight, and withstand a negative air-pressure. This involves particular
ly exact framing and sealing techniques, and specialized testing. Mechanical sys
tems are all sequestered so as to not allow biological agents to escape the NEIC
. Massive HEPA and HEGA filtration systems filter outgoing air of any airborne c
ontaminants and pathogens. The plumbing system is routed to sequester all of the
water into a single sump tank, so that none of the water-borne contaminants esc
ape the system. The structure is built to be blast resistant so as to contain an
y volatile substances that may also be explosive. The total cost of the project
was $2.2 million.
