In October of 2009 I took a hardship transfer to the New Orleans Office. Prior t
o that time I was in the Atlanta Regional Office.
I have been assigned to the Global War on Terrorism Team. I specifically focuse
d rating claims for Gulf War veterans that had been seriously injured, congressi
onal inquiries and highly sensitive cases. I establish service connection for co
mpensation and pension benefits for veterans, assign percentages of disability,
determine entitlement to permanent and total disability, vocational training, me
dical and dental treatment, automobile or other conveyances, insurance, speciall
y adapted housing and other ancillary benefits based on extensive review of the
veteran's claim file, service treatment records, examinations and any other exte
rnal public or private records when warranted. I communicate and interact with t
he veteran, Veteran Service Officer (VSO) representatives, other VA Regional Off
ice employees and VA Medical Center staff to facilitate accurate and timely exam
ination requests and reports. I interpret and analyze veteran claim files for ap
propriate development and final rating determinations. I use my knowledge of Fed
eral Laws pertaining to compensation, pension, and VA regulation and procedures
that implement these laws to accurately rate claims. I use the knowledge of comp
uter systems technology to utilize rules-based claims processing, monitoring and
correspondence preparation. I evaluate evidence and allegations while drawing s
ound conclusions when rating claims files. I work independently using sound judg
ment, guidelines, and computer systems technology. I exercise a high degree of i
ndependent judgment, skill, and initiative in adapting guidelines and procedures
to individual case circumstances. I have skill to function effectively in a str
essful environment. I am able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high pressure
environment. I have also used my background and ability to assist and train sup
port staff and new trainees.
