I have covered a variety of state and national stories, including deadly tornadoes in Oklahoma
and Alabama, a woman asking the local city council to let her keep her pet kangaroo and an FBI

I covered the Legislature, the Governor’s Office, the Public School System and the utilities
corporation for the daily paper. I wrote extensively on the island's ongoing power crisis and the
Northern Marianas' transition to federal immigration and labor laws. I traveled to Samoa to cover
a climate change roundtable and to China to report on tourism attractions.

Divided Families | Arizona State University


Reporter | August 2007 to December 2007
I traveled to the Arizona-Mexico border, Guadalajara and Veracruz to report and write two in-
depth pieces on families divided by the border. The Howard G. Buffet Foundation funded the
project, which was awarded the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award in the college print
category.
