Summer Quarter for Kids Begins June 12 – From June 12 –
July 31, our Kids Sunday School will experience some exciting
summertime variety. Our traditional classes for kids will shift
gears into an 8 week summertime ministry - called Catechism
Club - for kids who are age 4 through 6th grade (just completed)
and will meet in the gymnasium for games, activities, crafts,
stories, Bible memory and catechism studies. This year, our senior
high youth group (with help from their Sunday School adult
teachers!) will lead our summer club to gain experience for their
Navajo Mission Trip on July 22. In ‘Q & A about God’, students
will learn all about one God in three persons, that he is
everywhere, knows all things, and can do all His holy will. Your
kids won’t want to miss it.
Young Adult Summer Camping Weekend – On June 10-12,
post-high young adults (& graduating seniors) from across the
presbytery are invited to a weekend campout on the back dunes
and hardwood forest of Muskegon State Park in Western
Michigan. Pastor Bob Van Manen (Little Farms OPC) will join
the campers, leading them in Bible Study, and prayer time. Little
Farms OPC will host the young adults for the closing worship
service and fellowship meal at their church in Coopersville on
Sunday morning. Cost of the trip is $25/participant. Brochures

Saturday Slip-n-Slide is this week from noon until 5:00 pm
at Rosewood Park at the corner of Rosewood and 20th Avenue in

Car Wash – Mission Trip Fund Raiser - Come on over and
allow us to put a brand new gleam on your favorite ride! There
will be a car wash on Saturday, June 18 from 9:00 – 2:00 at the
Zion Christian School parking lot. The funds raised will go
towards two OPC missions’ projects; the New Mexico mission trip
led by Cedar OPC and the Chattanooga mission trip led by Harvest
OPC. If you would like to work at the car wash, please talk to
Caryn or Cayte Baker 878-7777.
Mark your Calendars -- Lifewalk will be held on Saturday, June

 CEDAR SESSION NOTES
– May 23, 2011 -
The Session met for its monthly meeting on Monday May 23, 2011
due to difficulties in finding any other evening without schedule
conflicts. We began with a meditation on the qualifications for
church leadership that are set forth in I Timothy 3:1-16.
- The Session approved a special “Timothy Offering” for June 12th,
for supporting Christina Hartwell (accepted as a missionary
associate in East Asia), Elizabeth Van Dyke (interning this
summer at Cedar Church), and a third member applying as a
missionary associate in Uganda early in 2012. Please support this
offering generously! The Session also approved the formation of a
support team consisting of Pastor Igo, Stephanie Haywood, and
David Van Dyke, to aid Christina in her efforts to raise the $8000
in support she needs for her missions travel and living expenses.
She plans to be departing in mid to late August.
- The Session discussed plans for summertime small groups and
fellowship activities. We want to encourage continued fellowship
and community, with a change of pace from our regular groups.
We want to give our regular leaders a well-deserved break, while
giving others an opportunity to explore leadership in a more casual
setting. These groups include the Thursday “Beach Day” outings
for ladies and children, and Bible Study / fellowship group for
girls. Pastor Igo is also making plans for a Friday evening hiking
group for exploring some of the nearby beautiful natural places in
West Michigan. And we are open to other ideas as well!
- The Session received a report on the plans for the summertime
Sunday School program, which will extend to the end of July. We
want to thank those who have stepped forward to serve as teachers
this summer (including our Senior High students who will be
leading the Catechism Club for those in elementary school age
range). Please make full opportunity for making use of these
resources for continuing to grow in the grace and knowledge of
Christ.

- Pastor Igo will be continuing on in our study on the book of
Colossians entitled “New Life in Christ” for both morning and
evening services. When that is concluded in mid-summer, the
Session approved a new sermon series entitled “The New
Testament Challenge: Don’t get Mushy in the Brain This
Summer.” The series will be an overview of each of the books of
the New Testament, focusing on the theme verse(s) from each
book. You will also be challenged to read the entire New
Testament in 90 days (or listen to it being read in audio format),
with the aid of outlines of each book to aid in your reading and
study. This series will take us just a little past the beginning of the
new school year.
- In the area of shepherding, the Session continues to ask for your
prayers for wisdom and God’s power as we seek to care for the
people God has entrusted to our care, “in season and out of
season.” We also received a report on the progress of a number of
our regular attenders toward membership. The words I Peter 2
2:4-5 are worth meditating upon: “As you come to Him, the living
Stone – rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to Him –
you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to
be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God
through Jesus Christ.”
