I. Scope
A. Application:
l It is appropriate to flexing such materials as leather, cloths, and etc. to-and-fro.
B. Principle:
l Hold one end of the specimen by the upper clamp, and the other end by the lower clamp.
Flex the specimen at a stipulated velocity and angle under an angle of 90°. Evaluate the
damage of the specimen after prescribed cycles.

V. Operation Procedure
A. Preparation of tools (prepared by customers themselves):
1.Distilled water (constant temperature)
2.Beaker (with scale)
3.Standard cutter and scissors
4.Hexagonal-socket spanner
5.Straw/dropper
6.Glass rod
B. Preparation of specimens
1. Cut specimens of 70 ± 5 mm long, 45 ± 5 mm wide from various parts of the material to be
tested (no scratches, folds or wrinkles) warpwise and weftwise with a standard cutter or
scissors.
45 mm
70 mm
(Fig. 3)
2. Number of specimens: More than two pieces of specimens shall be taken from longitude and
latitude for the same material.
3. Conditioning: Condition the specimen being tested at 20±2℃ and 65±5% relative humidity
for more than 48 h prior to testing.
C. Procedure
Dry test:
1. Specimen clamping:
1.1 Rotate the knob on one side of this equipment to set the upper clamp to a leveling position as
shown in figure 4.
22.5 mm
(Fig. 5)
1.3 Loosen the setting screws of both upper and lower clamps with a hexagonal socket spanner.
Insert one end of the folded specimen into the upper clamp, and keep the crease line flush
with the bottom line of the clamp until the specimen touches the setting screw of the upper
clamp. Then lock the setting screw with a hexagonal socket spanner. See figure 6.
(Fig. 6)
1.4 Fold the specimen inside out round the clamp as shown in figure 7. the wearing surface is
now facing outwards:
(Fig. 7)
1.5 Apply just sufficient hand tension to the specimen so that it is taut and there is no obvious
bagginess around the upper clamp. Insert the free end of the specimen into the lower clamp at
90 degrees to the upper one. Lock the setting screw with the hexagonal socket spanner as
shown in figure 8.
(Fig. 8)
1.6 Rotate the knob at the back of this equipment to set the upper clamp to a maximum angle.
Now the flexing angle of the specimen shall be 22.5° ± 0.5° as shown in figure 9. If the case
as shown in figure 10 occurs, clamp the specimen again.
Caution
G
n After the specimen is clamped, make sure that the setting screws are locked.
n Don’t lock the screws too firm as clamping specimen to avoid damaging
specimen.
Danger
n
! Be sure that the power switch is turned off before clamping.
2. Turn on the POWER switch, and set a specified number of flexing cycles on the control panel
as per your requirement.
3. Press the START button to allow this equipment to run.
4. After the set value is reached, it will stop automatically. Press the STOP button and then turn
off the POWER switch and remove the specimen.
Wet test:
1. Place the specimen on the workbench with its reverse face upwards. Spot a specified volume
of distilled water pipette onto the reverse face of the specimen and use the glass rod to work it
uniformly into the material, to within 5 mm of the edge. It usually takes between 1 and 2
minutes for the water to be absorbed.
2. Its operation steps are the same as those described in the Dry test.
D. Determination:
l After the set value is reached, stop this equipment and assess the flexing damage as
follows:
1. No effect, or slight creasing or piping
2. Marked, or severe creasing or piping
3. Slight cracking
4. Marked cracking
5. Severe cracking
6. Complete failure
l In addition, record whether there is any delamination or flaking.
l Salt spue
Assess wet specimens for salt spue and record any spue present as light, marked and heavy.
Caution
G ■In order to make damage assessment easier, the test specimen may be removed
from the clamps providing they are subsequently re-clamped in the same position.
Ignore any damage to the specimens caused by the clamps. If the specimens have
stretched, they must not be re-clamped taut. Clamping marks on the specimens
may help relocating the specimens correctly.
■If you are going to stop testing for a long time such as one night, can allow the
specimens to stay in the clamps, but shall rotate the clamps to make the
specimens relaxant.
Warning
■ In order to avoid damaging instruments, calibration shall be performed in the case
! of no power.
Caution
G n If the bias between the true value and standard one exceeds the prescribed value
(refer to the inspect report), please contact us.
