Business Turnaround Specialist- Informed by USDA Rural Development Director that a company I was hired to salvage was the first time e ver that a company working with their program had been turned from possible clos ure to profitability within one year within itself without outside infusion of c ash. 2. Wrote grants for and initiated six national model programs for the elderly un der the Older Americans Act. 3. Assisted and developed for several people new business designs and startups w hich still exist today. 4. Wrote grant for paralegal program of which I have just completed the course w ork for ECQ 1: Leading Change I have conducted many business and agency planning session s and I have formulated those into action plans. I devised a planning process th at I named: "Quad Defining". Another Program that I designed is entitled "Strate gy of Cause" a proactive vs. reactive positioning mechanism which moves companie s into the future looking at "What Was" to "What Is" to "What Ought to Be" to fi nally "What is to Come?" ECQ 2: Leading People People are brought to the forefront by challenging them to attempt new things and by giving them the room to try without regard to repercu ssions should they fail. Further, I strongly believe in giving employees the too ls they need to succeed through the provision of training, mentoring and working with them myself. Cross training is another area in which I firmly believe in a nd by doing so all must buy into the mission and purpose of your stated goals. I nvolving all is road to success. ECQ 3: Results Driven Goals are only vague statements until these goals are brok en down into objectives that are both attainable and measurable. The objectives are then broken into action steps and persons assigned to their respective roles . These must include potential barrier and gap acknowledgments and the strategy to overcome. The true customer base must first be identified and be segmented th eir opinions obtained and assessed and agreed upon strategies implemented. Targe ting the true customer base both internally as well as externally is an absolute requirement. Knowing your competition is also necessary and gaps in service or product offered by them exposed and capitalized upon. ECQ 4: Business Acumen I believe that the employee of an organization is its mos t valuable asset and people nurtured essential. People have diverse and unique a ttributes and idiosyncrasies and must be motivated and encouraged in different w ays. Being sensitive to these facts advances goal achievement and general accord in the workplace. Financial accountability is essential and all safeguards in p lace. Ongoing financial statements must be prepared and analysis conducted. Inte rnal and outside audits are mandatory and should be frequent. Information resour ces come through a variety of ways to include electronic and printed media. Publ ic relations and the use of news to sell the company is vital as well as the mar keting and sales activities of the enterprise. ECQ 5: Building Coalitions/Communications Collaboration within your own organiza tion and with other agencies is a vital means of communication and advances the work toward common goals which both maximizes efficiency and cost effectiveness. The Federal Agency structure as it exists creates the means when used properly to interface with state and local government in a positive and meaningful manner . Public and private cooperation is a means to empower joint accomplishments in an effective and cost saving manner. One of the biggest deterrents to pooling re sources is turf protection and suspicion of motive. I have led organizations thr ough this process sometimes by coddling, other times gently pushing and sometime s by outright confrontation. I have the ability to read and adjust to the issues and persons before me. Further references will be made available upon request.
