RESEARCH PROPOSAL ON ORGANIZATIONAL
DEVELOPMENT

Introduction

1. Organizational development (OD) is a change management strategy which has been


in operation for the last forty or so years. It is based on the understanding of behavioral
sciences and is concerned with how people and organizations function and how they can
be made to function better through effective use of human and social processes. The
turbulence facing the modern man and organization is at a level that may not have been
experienced before in human history. Both man and organization are faced by constantly
mutating environments that defy any explanation or rationale. Modern changes are more
revolutionary than evolutionary as we have understood historical changes. The changes
may be influenced by changing customer tastes, competition arising from new technology,
changing cultures and processes and higher demands for efficiency, effectiveness,
profitability and sustainability. Change may also arise from government legislation or
demographic shifts in age in society and workplace. New work patterns render old
knowledge and skills redundant, new structures destroy established self – esteem and
status patterns. Abrupt lay-offs impinge on human dignity and quality of life expectations.
Several questions may be asked here. What changes do we recognize in our environment
or organizations? What strategies have we employed to cope with these changes? Is OD
model our option for dealing with change? What is our perception of OD, a fad or a useful
tool for combating change? Is OD different from other change models?

2. Research can be defined as the search for knowledge, or as any systematic


investigation, with an open mind, to establish novel facts, solve new or existing problems,
prove new ideas, or develop new theories, usually using a scientific method. The primary
purpose for basic research (as opposed to applied research) is discovering, interpreting,
and the development of methods and systems for the advancement of
human knowledge on a wide variety of scientific matters of our world and the universe.
Research is an integral part of any higher studies. This is the process by which a student
can be evaluated according to his /her state of knowledge which he/she might have
acquired. Therefore this is a very important part of the curriculum for any higher studies. In

fact any kind of research is a kind of in-depth study of any particular aspect of any
knowledge. Through these research efforts we get a new dimension of knowledge. So an
individual can get in to an advance dimension of knowledge through research.

Background

2. In the final term of MBA program of Southeast University we had the scope to study
various intricate aspects of Human Resource Management, where one of the very
important part was Organizational Development. Organization Development is a kind of
study where students get the opportunity to have the scope to acquire the knowledge on
how an organization develop itself trough various steps taken by improving and developing
human resource and system.

3. Trust Bank limited of Bangladesh is a bank which is connected which Army Welfare
Trust and operated by the intimate monitoring and control of Bangladesh Army. Within few
years of inception this bank has become a worth mentioning bank in Bangladesh. Through
very particulars planning and proper administration this bank has won the heart and mind of
all walk of people of Bangladesh.

Proposed Topic

4. General. As a student of organization development I have developed a strong


liking and affection toward this bank because I have the opportunity to work very closely
with this bank and I am quite amazed to see the performance of this bank with in very short
span of time. However I want to research on Trust Bank in following broad heading.

5. Options of Research.

a. Trust Bank - An example of a unique bank with a prudent and efficient


organizational development with meticulous human resource management.

b. Trust Bank - Progression through Organizations Development by creating


intrinsic motivation amongst all members of the bank.

c. Evaluation of performance of Trust Bank in banking sector in the context of
Organization Development.

Purpose

6. The purpose of this research will be to explore the various aspect of human
resources management which has lead to bank to a higher level by creating a prudent and
efficient working environment. I have a intension to find out what are the special practice
the environment or the system is having which is effectively creating the required incentive
and driving force among to all the employee of Trust Bank limited.

7. To find out what are the OD intervention strategies are implemented from the
beginning. I like to find out how the bank is coping or adapting changes in the technological
boom and with the changing perspective of clients.

8. What are the intricate organizational culture that is creating a binding force and
transforming the attitude of the employees to be more responsive to the need of the
organization and the need of the clients. How the organization is creating the bridge
between the organization and the clients.

9. What are the motivations there worked together to create the sense of pride, dignity
and honor among the employees to provide their extraordinary contribution to the
organization including what are the change agents.

10. I shall mainly conflagrate on the process of organization development the infancies
and the motivations of trust bank limited.

Method

11. Step 1. The organization will be analyzed by the theoretical framework. This
will be done by primary and secondary, resources.

12. Step 2. I shall interact with the lower level employees to find out various
motivation aspects and their working environment.

13. Step 3. I shall interact with the higher management to find out how they are
managing OD international. How they are stimulating the working capability of the lower
level employee. What are the strategic management they are making to develop their
organization.

14. Step 4. I shall interact with some of the client of trust bank limited to find out
their view on the bank and its working environment.

find out their influence in the organizational development.

d. Objective 4. What are the intrinsic and extrinsic motivational theory


influencing the perspective of the employees in regards to incentives.

18. This Organizations Development is interesting subject. The opportunity of


researching on bank is further interesting. I am immensely grateful to the faculty for allowing
me to research in this area. I am sure this opportunity will give me a huge boost in my
knowledge.
