United States Air Force-NCOIC RF Systems

Duties & Responsibilities
Implementation, maintain/sustains, performing design support, installation, cal
ibration, testing, operation and repair of facilities, systems, equipment, and r
elated subsystems, constantly monitoring, analyzing, and directing performance c
hecks and measurements to ensure acceptable performance on all fixed, mobile, an
d transportable transmitters, receivers, transceivers, and related equipment. In
cluding, but not limit to the following items: amplitude modulation, frequency m
odulation, single sideband, and independent sideband radio systems and equipment
for point-to-point and ground-to-air
communications; facsimile receivers; high power, low frequency, high frequency,
very high frequency, and ultra high frequency radio systems; radio frequency amp
lifiers; recorders; keying and signal devices; generation and display equipment,
base radio systems, round and space based satellite, Beyond Line-of-Sight (BLOS
) wideband communications, telemetry, instrumentation systems, communications li
nks with distant terminals, earth terminal control console system performance in
dicators, operational directives, and wideband or satellite earth terminal facil
ities.
Supervises, Operates, monitors, secures, and controls, performs and executes: Co
mmunications-Computer Systems (C-CS), associated information systems support pro
grams and network management, Related DoD Occupational Subgroup, physical, data
link, network, DoD local, metropolitan, and wide area networks, Command-Control-
Communications- Computer and Intelligence systems, Defense Message Systems (DMS)
, functional area systems, Communications Security (COMSEC), Information Assuran
ce (IA) programs, information systems life-cycle management, and transport layer
s of garrison and tactical Communications-Computer Systems (C-CS) encompassing l
ocal and wide area networks, end-to-end telecommunications and circuit switching
systems, long-haul transmission, the global information grid, cryptographic equ
ipment, and fabrication of cable assemblies.
Supervised three, eight men teams performing site surveys to engineer, design, u
pgraded, install, and program new UHF/VHF LMR repeater systems for 32 deployed l
ocations to allow full range communication across entire region. Optimized, tun
ed, and power balanced, receive and transmit side, of around 200 Quanatar Motoro
la repeaters. Engineered and implemented antenna type, RF power requirements, a
nd antenna location along newly erected antenna towers. Maintained, programmed,
and optimized Motorola base stations. Implemented upgrade plan to change all XT
S 3000 mobile radios to XTS 5000 mobile radios to allow 12.5 kHz spacing along w
ith NSA mandated AES encryption. Performed software optimization (low wattage a
nd high wattage) and code plug programming on over 5,000 XTS5000 Motorola mobile
radios to ensure optimal coverage. Redesigned previous LMR networks to upgrade
coverage area due to new building installations or new frequency or power requi
rements.
Additional duties were performed but the details are classified.
