Since five years, I have been working as Telecom Engineer with Mauritius Telecom
who is a premier partner with CISCO.
I have a good experience with CISCO products and implemented Cisco IP Telephony
at Air Mauritius ltd. Just completed CCVP certification and preparing CCIE writt
en (Voice) and CCNP in the shortest time.
I have also good experience of Nortel Products such as Meridian PABX, Succession
1000s and BCM VoIP PABXs.
During my working in the Data and Pabx sections I had the following tasks to per
form day-to-day activity:
- Installation and configuration of modems and routers for services such SHDSL,

Experience details AT Mauritius Telecom:


From 1th April 2004 to 30th April 2005 - Trainee Engineer.
During this period I was attached with the Data Unit of the Business Services an
d Technical services, I was working with the data technical team consisting of a
chief Telecom Technician and three Senior Telecom Technicians and was under the
supervision of a Senior Telecom Engineer; the projects I have undertaken were a
s follows:
Police Extension Network Project: consisting of adding 81 ISDN BRI lines using N
okia NT1+MULTI modems to the 81 remote Police stations around the island, also t
wo additional ISDN PRA lines at the head office CRO (Crime Record Office) line B
arracks Port-Louis and a 64kpbs frame relay line on the 3845 Cisco router with V
PN connection for Rodrigues Police station. The objective of the project was tha
t the Remote police station and dial in at the Head office to query the Main CRO
server for data transfer and as well the NTA (National Transport Authority) ser
ver connecting through the Frame Relay cloud.
Cisco LRE (Long Reach Ethernet) implementation at Harel Mallac - the LRE technol
ogy was used to maximise the data transfer capability of the copper pairs upto 2
0 Mbps but constraint to distance using Cisco LRE 2950 and LRE 575 CPE. The proj
ect goal was to achieve a maximum data transfer of 10 Mbps between the Head Offi
ce Harel Mallac in Port-louis with its branch Active Line in Port-louis within a
distance of 1800 m. This was successfully performed.

IVTB WAN Project - This data project involved mainly the WAN (Wide Area Network)
data technologies of the Data unit. The Wide Area Network (WAN) of the IVTB was
based on a hybrid solution comprising of our MAURISTREAM (SHDSL) service as wel
l as MAURIFRAME (Frame Relay/ATM) service as the SHDSL service is not feasible a
t the main site (Phoenix) and remote sites of Piton and Beau-Bassin. Frame Relay
/ATM lines have been used instead of SHDSL. All routers used consist of Cisco eq
uipment and the modems are Nokia DNT+ 2mi.
From 1st May 2005 upto 30th May 2007 - Junior Engineer and from 31th October upt
o Now - Telecom Engineer after registration with council of professional engine
er in Mauritius
During this period I was promoted as Junior Telecom Engineer and had been Projec
t Leader of VOIP projects for Cisco Systems and Nortel Network and acquired Cisc
o Certifications.
Cisco VOIP (Voice Over IP) Projects:
Air Mauritius IP Telephony Project - The project consisted of interconnecting th
ree main sites with VOIP trunk and installing Cisco IP Phones (7912, 7940,7960 a
nd attendant console) at each site. The main site that is the Head Office of Ai
r Mauritius situated at Port-louis. The VOIP PABX implemented is the Cisco Call
Manager release 4.1. The second site is the Air Mauritius branch office in Roger
s House in Port-louis and the third site is the Airport found at Plaisance. The
total numbers of users for all these sites were approximately 1000. The routers
used were 3825 and 2851 models with SRST, and switch 3550 and 3560 with POE enab
le In order to cater for all these users three soft switch servers (MCS 7935 and
7945) were deployed at these sites. Mauritius I performed the configuration of
these servers, the testing and troubleshooting was carried out by Mauritius Tele
com.
Servers of Project were:
- Cisco Publisher and Subscriber
- Cisco Unity 3.1
- Cisco IPCC Express 4.0.
IPLC and H323 VOIP project for Air Mauritius - the project consisted of installi
ng an IPLC (International Private Lease Circuit) data line was set up between Ai
r Mauritius Centre and Air Mauritius Centre La Reunion of 256 kbps so as to carr
y VOIP calls between Air Mauritius Centre and La Reunion Air Mauritius. The H323
protocol was used for the call set up and establishment and the H225 voice call
signalling was used. ITU-T H.323 protocol was used for the VOIP calls between t
he sites. The VOIP setup was between the Call Manager 4.1 and Alcatel Pabx and w
as successfully implemented.
Cisco IPCC Enterprise Call Centre Project for Air Mauritius - The Air Mauritius
Call Center at Ebene Cyber Tower project is the implementation of the IPCC Enter
prise call centre for Air Mauritius. The IPCC Enterprise call centre infrastruct
ure is to support about 81 users (16 IP phones, 65 IP communicator soft phone).
The Call manager was for a single site. The IPCC enterprise consists of 9 x HP 7
845 servers, these servers were loaded with the required IPCC software such as t
he IP IVR (Interactive Voice Respond), ICM (Intelligent Contact Management), SQL
(Structured Query Language) Server 2000 Enterprise, IPCC ICM Rogger server, IPC
C Peripheral gateway (PG) server, Administrative Workstation (AW server). There
will be an additional Call Manager 4.1 installed with the Publisher and Subscrib
er at Ebene Cybertower 11th Floor. The implementation and testing was effected b
y Mauritius Telecom and as well as Cisco Advance Services. There was a lot of tr
oubleshooting and the Call Centre was successfully configured and installed.
Cisco Call Manager Express (CME 4.1) for clients NCIT and Ministry of IT - The C
ME 4.1 system was deployed installed and configured at theses sites with Cisco I
P Phone 7941, 7961 and 7971-Ge. The CME GUI was also installed and configures su
ccessfully. The VG224 gateway was also installed for the analogue phones. At the
NCIT site, the CME Basic acd was installed and configured for 4 IP extensions 7
961 with hunting.
Cisco Call Manager Express (CME 4.1) for client BAT (British American Tobacco Bo
ard) and DHL Mauritius. I also configure and install CUE 3.0 for BAT and is full
y working on the router 2821 with CME 4.1 using SIP protocol as integration.
Cisco Call Manager 4.1 for Innodis and upgrade to Cisco Call Manager 5.1 - The I
nnodis project consisted of deploying Cisco Call Manager 4.1, Unity 3.0 and IPCC
express 4.1 with approximately 200 Cisco IP phones (7906, 7941, 7961 and 7971).
The High and Low Level Design, the Scope of work, the project tracking was also
performed. A main site and seven remote sites, with router 3845 at the main sit
e and 1841 and 2811 at the remote with SRST enable. After deployment and install
ation the call manager 4.1 was upgraded to 5.1. The VT advantage video terminal
was used for 15 users and was successfully deployed and configured.
Cisco Call Manager 4.2 for Mauritius Telecom tower at Port-Louis - The project w
as designed and implemented successfully. The project consists of Call Manager 4
.2 (Publisher and Subscriber) single cluster. The Unity 3.0 was deployed and 650
Cisco IP Phone. The catalyst Switch 4507 as the backbone switch and 3560 as the
edge switch.
IPTV for Blue Ocean with Hotel application - This project consisted of Video ove
r IP and integrating Nevotek IPTV suite application with Cisco call Manager, an
d displaying satellite broadcasting video channel such as Canal satellite, TNT (
DVB-T) and DSTV on the Cisco Video enable IP phone connected to the Anevia setto
p box and displaying on an LCD TV. A video on demand server and broadcast TV Hea
d-End streamer Server managed by Nevotek Video/IP suite server. Multicasting wer
e configured on the core switch and the edge switch. The infrastructure is built
on Cisco system, with routers 2811 and 3825 (PSTN gateway), the core switch use
d was 4507 with catalyst switch 3560 as the edge switch. The call Manager 4.2 wa
s implemented. The ASA 5520 firewall was also deployed. The High and Low level d
esign Scope of work, and project planning and tracking were carried out successf
ully.
SUGAR Beach Resort Cisco IP Telephony with hotel application: Deployment of Cisc
o Call Manager 6.1(2) for around 600 hundred users and the integration of nevote
k Vip/Suite servers for guest check-in/check-out in hotel rooms where room statu
s, mini-bar, weather, and currency exchange xml applications. The 4507R core swi
tch was installed and configured with fiber optics running to each villas termin
ating on the edge switch 3560 poe 24/48 port. The integration of Nevotek vip/sui
te servers with PMS (Property Management System) and Micros/Fidelio application
(Opera) and with Call Manager 6.1(2) was successfully configured and tested.
BOI ( Board of Investment) project: The CME 4.2 was deployed for two major sites
and trunked to each other, the Call centre (UCCX 5.0) with acd script and IPIVR
5.0 was installed and configured using SIP protocol as integration with CME 4.
2 and also the deployment of Unity 5.0 with CME 4.2 using SIP protocol as integr
ation. The billing server was the Ringmaster for call accounting with 200 ports.
Nortel VOIP Projects:
BCM (Business Communication Manager) 3.6 was installed and configured for the Cu
rrimjee ltd at Curepipe with 10 Nortel IP phone and 30 digital phones. The call
pilot integrated voicemail was deployed integrated in the BCM system.
Nortel succession 1000s was deployed at Clemcom ltd situated at Port-louis. The
VOIP system consisted of the Signalling server, Media gateway and call server, a
nd all servers were installed and configured successfully. The sub branch office
s were situated at London and Paris where SBO (Sub Branch Office) consisted of t
he Signalling server and call server.
