CURRENT POSITION AND DUTIES-Principal Attorney Editor, Thomson Reuters (West Pub
lishing), Eagan, Minnesota. Oversight responsibility for print and electronic fe
deral rules products nationwide (annual revenue-$14 million); manage daily produ
ction work of seven staff, interns, and junior attorney; develop and refine prod
uction processes and quality assurance techniques; liaison to senior management,
marketing, sales, product development, customers, court personnel, and the Offi
ce of the U.S. Courts Administrator; develop and recommend product improvements.
CURRENT POSITION-ACHIEVEMENTS
* Promoted to current position in three years, more quickly than any peer.
* Designed, developed, and implemented an automated system for internal distrib
ution and tracking of content updates, increasing production efficiency by 50%.
* Developed and refined automated techniques for comparing court-provided conten
t electronically with Thomson Reuters (West) content, radically enhancing effici
ency and quality while reducing labor cost by at least 100%.
* Researched and implemented an automated system for monitoring web sites of al
l federal courts simultaneously, to acquire updates and new content as posted.
* Developed automated methods that make possible same-day publication to Westl
aw of court-posted updates and new content.

EXAMPLES OF LAW PRACTICE SUCCESS-
* APPELLATE WORK-CRIMINAL LAW- In one week, reviewed 2,000-page trial record and
medical literature and prepared amicus brief advocating position aligned with d
octor-defendant, convicted in state court of murder and attempted murder in the
care of patients. Result: Defendant acquitted on appeal; court's opinion quote
d brief. See State v. Naramore, 965 P.2d 211 (Kan. Ct. App. 1998).
* BANKRUPTCY-Bankruptcy judge had denied motion to lift automatic stay, previous
ly filed by creditor-client to pursue the recovery of thirteen tractor-trailer u
nits from debtor. Called upon to prepare and file a motion to reconsider. Resul
t: Court reversed its decision, and client regained possession of equipment.
* INSURANCE COVERAGE-Led briefing on summary judgment for six national insurers
on a pollution risk with exposure of about $3.8 million. Result: Summary judgm
ent granted for all insurers; settled on appeal for $-0-.
* COMMERCIAL LITIGATION-On the date of a default hearing, asked by software comp
any to enter appearance as substitute defense counsel in behalf of employee, sue
d for breach of a non-compete. Plaintiff sought damages of about $100,000.00. R
eceived the file from withdrawing counsel about five minutes before hearing; jud
ge denied continuance. Result: Court awarded $17,000.00 to plaintiff, commentin
g on record that defense counsel had done a "hell of a job".
* HEALTH CARE MEDIATION-Lead negotiator representing 17 non-profit organizations
, engaged in the delivery of services to disabled persons, in mediation with sta
te over complex service contracts aggregating $200 million dollars. Result: A
number of adverse contract terms were stricken or modified, favorable to clients
' interests.
