About us

The spice of life

Introduction:

Arabia is one of the world’s largest spice markets. Folklore and mythology, tradition and culture, history and
modern society – all offer glimpses into the strong binding of the land with spices. Drawing its inspiration from
the region, Shama Food Industries was established in Ajman-UAE in January 1999. Within two years, the
company focused its objectives and shifted base to Dubai under a new management steered by professionals.

Today, the company owns a full-fledged, state-of-the-art factory in Al Qusais, Dubai, with a built up area of
25,000 sq. ft. The production process is effectively streamlined through machinery imported from Europe and
India to assure timely delivery, product uniformity and quality management. From a production capacity of 2
tones per day in1999, Shama today processes 40 tones of an array of spices and pulses per day. The company
has embarked on an ambitious expansion programme eyeing a production capacity of 75 tones per day. Manned
by a team of seasoned professionals, who not only understand the market requirements but are also passionate
about the products marketed, Shama today has a team of 120 employees involved in production and marketing.

Quality Standards:

The current growth dynamism of Shama is the result of a deep-rooted commitment to maintaining quality
standards of the highest level. Shama respects the fact that spices and pulses are family products, and putting
the welfare of the consumers on par with the growth of the company, Shama has a strict production framework
that ingrains high quality standards at every level. Pursuing global quality standards in purity of the spices and
pulses, Shama has also been a leader in generating market awareness about spice adulteration. HACCP
certified by British Standard Institution, UK.
Products:

Shama has a diverse product range of spices and pulses. Apart from spices and pulses marketed with the
home-user in mind, Shama also has a range of products for the HORECA (hotel, restaurant and catering) sector
including food colours and preservatives. Shama markets its products to hypermarkets and supermarkets in PE
packets laminated with polyester to ensure their freshness, apart from packaging a select number of products in
PET jars. Shama is the only spice company in the region that offers a wide range of Arabic spices and herbs in
addition to Asian and Continental spices. Shama recently launched Shama Spanish Saffron & Shama Iran
Saffron to the range of high quality products.

The product range includes: Arabic Blends, Indian Blends, Biriyani Masalas, Rice, and Continental Herbs etc…

Market Reach:

Shama had never diluted its vision of focusing its product range for the local market. With the domestic market in
mind, Shama has over the years painstakingly built a well-knit network of hypermarkets and supermarkets that
stock Shama products. Prominent among the retailers in the region are Carrefour and Lulu (Emke Group)
hypermarkets. Carrefour has regarded Shama as the brand leader (which they term as national leader) in the
spices category, which demonstrates the high market share Shama enjoys in the region.
Through a focused advertising strategy that involved the radio, television and print media, Shama has come to
be identified as a “preferred brand” for spices and pulses by the local community – a fact that also highlights the
company’s commitment to upholding the quality of its products.

Shama has also been a strong supplier to the entire co-operative sector in the region, and today, the brand
enjoys commendable shelf-space in the co-operatives. The reach spans from the Al Ain Co-Operative Society to
Al Dhafra Co-Operative Society to the Sila border.

Future Plans:

Shama Food Industries aspires to be the brand leader in its category in the Middle East region. The company
also has expansion plans centred on Europe and Far East. The experience of building a company from the
scratch in the highly competitive market of Dubai is probably the biggest inspiration for Shama, and the
management is committed to attain its clearly chalked out objectives.
