This application form consists of three parts: A. registration B. work C. manual (visa/permits) Please complete your application using the checklist at the bottom of page A and B, and return it to: Sandberg Institute Admission / Interior A. When your registration is complete, your will receive a confirmation from the Sandberg administration. Your application will be handled by the departments admission committee. Applications of non-residents of The Netherlands who need to apply for a MVV visa must have been received before May 1st. In case of doubt, contact the staff. The application can be filled out by hand, and sent via normal mail. All questions may be answered in Dutch or in English.

1. Curriculum Vitae

The Interior Architecture masters program has 5 (!) places in the summer admission round. The course can accept 10 students in total.

Admission procedure

The first selection round involves the assessment of the applicants motivation, CV, and portfolio. The second selection round involves an interview in Amsterdam with selected candidates from the first round on the following date:

Include a short biography and mention the most relevant activities of your practice from the last 4 years as well relevant side activities (commissioned and self-initiated design projects, projects from previous education(s), and other relevant work). Also mention collaborations, publications, competitions, awards, et cetera.

Candidates, which are selected for the second round, will be notified by email about the date and time of their interview on July 5th Note: The Rietveld Academie Graduation show runs from July 6th till July 10th, and the Sandberg graduation show of the Design Department is open to the public from 9 till 11 July. We recommend to view the show if you are around.

Motivate your choice for Interior Architecture masters course. Why do you want to follow this course, and which expertise do you consider of value for your studies? What can be your input in the team, knowledge and skill wise? Include the contact details of two referees (a tutor, colleague or employer), who can be contacted for further information if needed.

3. Portfolio

Round 2.

The admissions committee consists of the course director, tutors, and students. The outcome of the exam is given in writing within one week after the exam. If you need information about admission at an early stage (for example for a scholarship or a visa), be sure to mention this explicitly on your registration form, and contact the staff in advance.

Degree

Students who successfully complete the course obtain a Master of Interior Architecture: MIA.

Your portfolio should be saved As a PDF document or As a set of numbered images (01, 02, 03), JPEG format, 1024 x 768 pixels, 72 dpi, RGB. Audio files and movies should be saved separately on DVD or cd. Use Codec H.264 (for mac video), WMV3 (for PC video), and AAC (for audio). Use resolutions 640 x 480 (4:3 video), 768 x 576 (DV), 853 x 480 (widescreen DV), or 1280 x 720 (HD quality). Save as mp4, mov, mpeg, or wmv. You should then send the following documents to the Gerrit Rietveld Academie: a copy of your passport (all pages, including the empty ones) a statement from your bank stating that the balance in your bank account amounts to the equivalent of at least 9305. This must be an original statement (not a copy). This bank statement must be written in English, French or German. If this means that the statement has to be translated, this must be done by an official translation agency. STEP 3. An MVV visa costs 250. Transfer this money to the Gerrit Rietveld Academie as soon as possible. The application will only be submitted after all the necessary documents have been received and the money has been deposited into the bank account of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Bank details:

Foreign students are obligated to obtain an MVV visa (application deadline May 1st). Only students out of the following countries do NOT need an MVV visa: All EU/EEA countries are: Austria, Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Romania, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States. A student from an EU/EEA country is not obliged to obtain a residence permit. Nevertheless, the Gerrit Rietveld Academy advises you to obtain one, as you may require a residence permit for various government and private agencies. MVV visa and Residence permits

of the Sandberg Institute. A tourist visa costs 35, payable at the Embassy. You can also ask questions there if you are uncertain about anything. NB 1: If you come from one of the countries for which an MVV visa is required, it is impossible to apply for a residence permit without an MVV visa. And without a residence permit you cannot enrol as a student and study at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. NB 2: If you require an MVV visa to study in the Netherlands, you must also apply for a residence permit. You can do this upon arriving in the Netherlands and before september 1, with assistance from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Therefore, please carefully read the information on applying for a residence permit before your departure. This application will require certain documents that you can only obtain in your home country. So please be meticulous and make sure you bring all the required documents with you to the Netherlands. NB 3: You are not permitted to be in the Netherlands at the time of submitting your MVV visa application. The application process takes at least 2 weeks. NB 4: The application process for an MVV visa can take several weeks. Therefore it is important that you contact the International Office as soon as possible after hearing that you have been accepted to the Sandberg Institute so that you can take all the necessary steps as quickly as possible.

Residence permit EU/EEA

A residence permit can be obtained by closely following the steps below.

STEP 1. As soon as you find out you have been admitted to the Sandberg Instituut, contact the International Office of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. You can do so by sending an e-mail to internationaloffice@grac.nl. Clearly state your name and your country of origin and that you have been accepted to the Master at the Sandberg Institute. Also clearly state that you wish to apply for a residence permit upon arriving in the Netherlands.

STEP 3. A residence permit costs money. The fees are as follows: Students from EU/ EEA countries: 30 euros. Students from non-EU/EEA countries who do not have an MVV visa: 433 euros. Please transfer the applicable amount to the Gerrit Rietveld Academie as soon as possible. The application will only be submitted after all the necessary documents have been received and the money has been deposited into the bank account of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Bank details:

What is an MVV visa


In order to study in the Netherlands, students from certain countries require an MVV (authorisation for temporary stay) visa. An MVV visa must be obtained before you enter the Netherlands. An MVV visa is a temporary residence permit. Once you are in the Netherlands, you are obliged to apply for a regular residence permit. You can only apply for an MVV visa with the assistance of the Rietveld Academie. The application procedure is explained below.

How to obtain an MVV visa

When you go to collect your visa, ask for a combined visa (called a D + C visa). This is an MVV visa as well as a tourist visa. This visa will enable you to enter the Netherlands multiple times, enabling you to take part in the excursions

STEP 2. In order to obtain a residence permit, you must have the following documents. NB: Some of these documents can only be obtained in your home country. So make sure you obtain them before your departure. a valid passport 2 official passport photos, in colour or B&W A valid postal address in the Netherlands Proof of health insurance with sufficient coverage and validity in the Netherlands Proof of enrolment at the Sandberg Institute, Master of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie Students from outside Europe must have proof of a return ticket, or at least proof that they have sufficient funds to purchase one. Students from certain countries are obliged to take a tuberculosis test. This test can be taken at:

Once your residence permit has been granted, you will be notified that you can collect your residence permit.

Once you have all of these documents, the Gerrit Rietveld Academy can submit the application for you. So deliver these documents to the International Office as soon as possible. The International Office is located on the first floor of the Rietveld building, near the Student Office.
