We Should Not Keep Animals As Pets

It is cruel to keep animals as pets. Generally pets may have better shelter, or more secured food source, but humans can't give the essential part which they really need as animals. They are often left lonely at home, eating processed food, living in limited spaces, and etc.

Well there are only few species that we should keep, marine animals and birds are one that we should NOT KEEP Animals that have not been domesticated, should not be kept as pets. Further breeding of domesticated animals should not be allowed. We are holding animals captive for our own entertainment and companionship. We wouldn't want someone to do this to us!

Animals are our slaves. We isolate them from others of their own kind and give them unhealthy food which they eat for the lack of anything better. As a result, we see them developing diseases like diabetes.

Animals should revolt against their human oppressors and overlords but they don't have the selfconfidence to do so. In many cases, their combat skills have also atrophied thanks to years of being fed by humans, rather than hunting for it, as they would do in the wild.

All true animal lovers must hope that, in future, an animal Spartacus will emerge to lead the slaves in revolt against their oppressors. Then, and only then, will animals attain their ancient freedom and live in dignity once again. Comment LOL Comment LOL Comment It'll probably be a raccoon. Comment I cannot speak for all animal lovers, but I truly love animals and do all that I can to help the sick, injured and unwanted stray animals that people discard when they are bored of having them as pets. In that way, I agree with some of what you say. Aside from that, my dear little Shih Tzu, Roxie is my very dear friend, companion and pet. I treat her with nothing but kindness and do not feed her

chemical filled, cheap dog food. I give her an all natural diet and I cook for her at times too. Yes, I know they do well on a raw diet, but due to the fact that I have kids and salmonella is not something I wish to spread around, I do cook her food. She is kept warm, dry, clean and never has to wonder if she will find food or fresh water to drink. I truly do not know what I would do without the little gal. I may sound silly, but I love her very much. I have childreen and they are the most important beings in the world to me, however, at the end of the day, the kids are getting older and have their own things to do and Roxie and I sit and spend quiet time together. I am thankful that I have her in my life. Perhaps, more people should view their pets this way. Animals are held against their will as pets. I'm sure you've all heard the, "Well, what if YOU were..." then why aren't you people applying it! Come on! Animals should be running free! Freedom of choice! If they were locked in cages all day with just a ball thrown at them, it would get pretty boring. Stressrelated diseases and other infections can start from being locked up everyday, waiting for their "owner" to come home with just a nod or a grunt in their general direction!

Stupid idea!!!! REALLY if if my dog gets out of the house I can guarantee two hours later if not less it will be crying at the door wanting to come in a dog is a domestic pet it would get run over and injured in the wild!!! my cat in a similar way I let it out every day and every night it returns home I dont make it!!! An animalsuch as a dog for example has a different mental capacity to a human so therefore is easier to entertain so to suggest that I would get bored if sumone threw a ball at me is not the same as a dog getting bored. To suggest all dogs have the same likes and dis likes is degrading their intelligence! Also you are being very sereotypical in your arguement my dogs and cat have never been locked in a cage they are never ignored we play with them talk to the stroke them feed them all the time you cant just suggest that every dog which is a pet is neglected as the dog in your example is!!

Animals (as pets) are taken away from their natural environments and caged (even if that cage is a house). Evolution has bread purpose into animals and stifling this is extremely frustrating for the animal. Of course there are instances where animals are given adequate freedom, but the number of opposing cases outweigh this. Animals are not fulfilled and are kept cooped up upon human terms...keeping animals as pets is unfair repression. dph86 23 Mar 2008 21:55 Add a Comment

Domestication has its good and bad sides. In a natural and open society, humans have for a long time sided with companions to fill their social holes, however the presence of domestication in our modernized market society of S&%T is only playing with people's emotions. Look I am not a vegetarian and I HATE PETS, but keeping animals in a cage just because they are 'cute' is just like keeping someone in a prison because he has a nice beard. I think they should be free and we should also be free to kill and eat them, but come on... How hypocritical is it to claim to love animals when you basically enslave them for your own personal pleasure? DaedalusX 10 Mar 2008 00:29 1 Comment

Animals as Pets

Reason2: If are a couch potato, than an animal will be like a running machine for you. Details: If you care for a pet you can do many activities with them, and also, some animals need walk. So, when you care for them with true love, then you turn from a lousy couch potato to a sporty person. This will be good for your health too. Source: Article and me

Reason 3: Animal s baby Details: If your animal gives birth to the baby, then you can sell their babies and make a lot of money. You can loose money, but you can also make a lot of money. Source: Article

We should keep animals as pets!!!!!~^^ First of all, pets are loving creatures. Especially when you are sad or lonely, and do not have any relative to talk to, then an animal can be a friend, or a brother or sister to you. Second, some pets need walks. For most of them, you have to clean, feed, take them to the hospital, and do many activities for them. If you are a couch potato, then an animal will be like a running machine for you. While caring for your lovely animal, you ll notice that you are doing many works and is happy, and start getting sporty. Third, the one thing you cannot buy with your money, even if you have a billion dollars, is happiness and love. A pet can give you love, and happiness. Also, people are mistaken that they only loose money when they care for all the animals. But, when they give birth to babies, you can sell them and get a lot of money. Beside that, pets give you happiness, love, and cover your loneliness with all their heart, to their owners. A cat can be a friend, parent, brother, sister, pet, and a close relative at any time for you. Pets give you many things, always blooming for yourself, and for the pet that you love. woojenny 22 Mar 2010 10:53

Yes, it may be true that in some cases, it would be better off for the animal to be kept in a shelter or whatnot, however, there are those people out there, such as I myself, who love and care for their pets. If my dog wasn't with me, where would it be? Potentially wandering the streets, desperately looking for food and being a hazard to drivers all over? Animals are better off with owners and living in homes. lillyputla 10 Feb 2010 02:38 Add a Comment

We should, within reason. DdAWg 08 Jan 2010 02:13 Add a Comment

I think we should. There are a lot of alley cats out there. They have bugs crawling in their fur, they are dirty all over. They are scrawny, they scavenge all day for scraps. They are vulnerable to diseases.

Compare this to a life of a house cat. Well fed, groomed, bathed. This is why I think that pets should not be banned. angiehorse 01 Dec 2009 18:49 Add a Comment

Do u think a dog that is used to homelife will be able to survive by itself? Also if that happens, many animals would be left neglected. And do u think they are happy to feel neglected? muahahaha 21 Oct 2009 16:40 Add a Comment

Why not. swimmer724 10 Mar 2009 00:36 Add a Comment

So what do you suggest we do with all these animals??? cancer35 30 Jan 2009 16:46 1 Comment

I suppose the person who believes this must think that they should just all be released into the wild. I do wonder if they realize that will kill most of the domesticated animals?Hmmmm....maybe they do not really love animals after all. by my2cents2u 23 Feb 2009 17:16

As long as you take care of them it is okay. tiny101 28 Jan 2009 00:51 Add a Comment

If we didn't keep pets they might not even survive nick667 26 Jan 2009 08:11 Add a Comment

This is actually laughable. I have a Bishon and a Maltese and they have been bred for hundreds of years to be domestic and could never survive in the wild. Dare I say they're more intelligent than some humans I have encountered. They live to kiss and play with my husband. Our family is their whole world. I am sorry you have never known the love of a smart domesticated animal. What a shame hodver 29 Dec 2008 21:49 Add a Comment

Uh, you do realize that most animals kept as pets are treated much better than animals that are in the wild? Truth is, nature is very cruel to animals. Animals living with people are in many ways very spoiled: They do not have to hunt for food or worry about being eaten by predators, they have veterinarians to care about them, etc. Starburst 11 Dec 2008 05:43 Add a Comment

Animals need food and water. Pets always get that stuff. My 2 cats are spoiled with treats, toys, food, and beds. mango8 29 Nov 2008 18:47 Add a Comment

Let me tell you all something I have a roommate named Zippy we share a house she can go into everyroom that she cannot get hurt in her bed more comfortable than mine is her meals are ground beef used to make hamburgers she also eats fresh grown plants from our garden she has access to every room in the house and outside 24/7 she eats at the table in her own special chair she gets her exercise how she wants it when she wants it she has only ever worn a leash and colar when we went out in public shepoos any where she wants when she wants

she has never been chained outside locked in a carrier or pen in her entire life I milk fed her from a bottle until she was full grown I read her bedtime stories and stroke her for hours at a time she has only ever been 20 minutes away from me at a time I spend more money on her than I do on myself she is pampered I love her like I would my own child and she loves me too Zippy is a Shih-tzu she has royal treatment she is not my "dog" she is my "baby"

I can understand being against irresponsible and cruel people not being allowed pets I can see not allowing black marketed exotic pets and "no problem" exotic pets (by "no problem" I mean animals that have no reason to be in human care such as hybred with domesticated animals, orphaned animals or animals with deseases or animals that are extreme handicapped (no hind legs or broken jaw etc.) )

but there are humans out there in this world and their pets matter more to them than children!!!! THEIR OWN CHILDREN

Zippy is so spoiled if she doesn't get her way she poos in the middle of the offender's bed

HA! Now that is funny zippy is now sitting on my lap she just sighed contently she is happy i was almost for your protest if it not for zippy I would be FoxWolf 25 Aug 2008 00:59 Add a Comment

We shouldn't keep some species as pets, But there are many animals that would rather stay in the comfort of a warm home and enjoy the communication between their human companions than run free in the wild. I have a pet wolf that came to me. I saw it in my backyard one day and ever since we met it has stayed close to me. It leaves sometimes but it always comes back at the end of the day. I barley even feed it, it usually gets its own meal so its staying with me completely on it's own will. verum 07 Aug 2008 16:21 Add a Comment

NO I'm AGAINST every one should have a pet they hail you they keep you safe and they make kids so happy

Fully domesticated animals are fine to be pets so long as they are not abused. But wild animals should always be left wild. Grenache 18 Jul 2008 18:17 Add a Comment

No. Keeping pet is o.k. Dogs are pack animals they don't even know they aren't human. Some exotic animals would be better off in their natural environment. That said it is a bit like some other debates so far when you love and care for someone or some thing, that counts for much more than P.C. keepmindok 18 Jul 2008 18:06 Add a Comment

Well, if we continue to behave the way we have, the species we keep as pets may become some of the last species to exist. And, it was the wolves choice to stay with humans in return for food and shelter. Urjak 18 Jul 2008 17:28 Add a Comment

I agree for most animals, but I can't really agree for all animals. The dog-human relationship seems to be a pretty good one, and I really don't care much if someone has a goldfish. But birds in cages really bother me, and anyone who bought and then abandoned a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig in the 80's should be charged. OzzieMan 22 Jun 2008 19:58 Add a Comment

I agree and disagree with this debate. Some animals such as wild animals (pigeons, chipmunks, raccoons, elephants, tigers, etc..) should not be kept as pet in someone's home. However, domestic animals such as dogs, cats, birds, hamster, etc are okay to have. They provide us with companionship and entertainment. Humans do meet their needs. They have a warm home, good food, fresh water, and plenty of love. Most dogs, cats, birds, and hamsters would not survive long out in the wild. They were breed and raise in a home environment. Therefore, domestic animals are okay to have in one's home. Ruco 22 Jun 2008 18:36 Add a Comment

Pets can't live with out us. Because they depend on us for food and many other tings to survive.Shelter, attention. Love and so on. They need us to survive and we need them some do. K-state208 17 Jun 2008 04:58 Add a Comment
