device to apply

Use an absorbent towel over the patients neck & chest area to prevent staining of clothes or body areas. If DiscovRED is accidentally spilled on clothing, immediately rinse in cold water, saturate the stain with a commercial soap, rub with a brush if necessary, rinse & again wash in cold water & soap until the stain is lifted. If DiscovRED is spattered on the face, immediately blot the area with a moist, warm towel & then gently flush the area with warm water & hand soap. Even though its components are a non-toxic dye, it may be necessary to repeat until the stain is lifted. A slight pink may remain on the skin but will disappear over time. If DiscovRED is accidentally spilled in an open wound or eye, flush with warm water & seek medical advice. Store DiscovRED at room temperature. Do not refrigerate!

Better Dentistry Through Chemistry

DiscovRED provides cleansing of infected bacterial biofilm. DiscovRED is biologically compatible with oral tissues. DiscovRED is non-irritating to oral tissues. DiscovRED identifies suspected fractures, cracks, & accessory root canals during endodontic treatment. DiscovRED differentiates AFFECTED dentin. the deeper

DiscovRED assists identification of bacterial plaque. DiscovRED provides immediate visualization of cracks in the enamel, dentin & cementum to aid in the diagnosis of root fractures. NO ANESTHESIA is necessary during use of DiscovRED.

CAUTIONS AND TIPS

Do NOT dispense DiscovRED directly onto the tooth from the bottle as spillage & possible contamination of the entire tip & bottle contents may occur. Use caution to dispense only one drop of DiscovRED from the container onto a Dappen dish or cotton pellet as it has a great spreading capacity over tissues.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR OPTIMAL CLINICAL USE

1. Isolate with a rubber dam or your preferred clinical technique. For low-speed MINIMALLY INVASIVE cavity preparation local injection is NOT always necessary. 2. Gently rinse & air disperse the area with the syringe tip no closer than approximately 10 cm (4 inches) for 1 second. This prevents pulp cell aspiration into vital tubules. 3. For patient application, warm to room temperature. Place 1 drop of DiscovRED into a small dish & gently apply to the area with a microsponge or cotton pellet for 7 seconds to stain the bacteria in the INFECTED dentin. 4. Gently rinse with water & air disperse the area no closer than approximately 10 cm (4 inches) for 1 second to prevent cell aspiration into the tubule complex. 5. As enamel is insensitive, the red-stained carious enamel may be gently removed with a high speed bur. DO NOT USE high or ultra high speed burs on normal dentin. This causes heat damage to the normal collagen & pulp. 6. Only use a large low-speed rotary bur to prevent excessive heat transfer to the vital dentin & pulp. A few degrees (F) increase has been shown to severely damage the collagen & adjacent dentin & pulp cells.

7. Gently remove only the RED-STAINED non-vital & non-sensitive INFECTED dentin with a low speed rotary bur. Avoid excessive rotary bur pressure as this causes excessive heat damage to the vital pulp tissues. 8. Do not remove the PINK AFFECTED dentin beneath the INFECTED; AFFECTED dentin will remineralize! 9. If necessary, repeat steps 3 to 5 until you have completely removed all of the soft INFECTED RED DENTIN. 10.To prevent post-operative cold & air hypersensitivity, place a desensitizer (i.e. Super Seal) on all cavity walls to seal the tubules against all future patient cold & air pain. 11. Use an organic etchant (i.e. BioETCH) to ETCH remove any residual pink stained areas on the cavity walls & floor, gently rinse & follow with a desensitizer (i.e. Super Seal) & gently air disperse as described above.

INDICATIONS & SUGGESTIONS FOR CLINICAL USE

DiscovRED may be applied to all suspected carious, broken & fractured teeth to assist your diagnosis & clinical restorative plans before aggressive cavity preparation. Remove only the dark red-stained non-sensitive non-vital infected dentin, as it does not have the capacity to remineralize due to the degraded collagen & other proteins. DiscovRED is an ideal diagnostic aid to use in young patients before you proceed with a needle injection, or use of an ultra high speed bur with its noise & vibrations. When properly applied at room temperature, DiscovRED may be applied without pain or sensitivity. DiscovRED may be applied to the crowns & exposed tooth root surfaces, suspected cracks, fractures & defective margins of tooth substrates to identify bacterially infected defects. Application of DiscovRED allows immediate visualization of bacterially infected non-vital tissues to assist the removal of carious tissue with a low speed bur, avoiding the noise & extreme vibration of ultra high speed burs. To practice minimal reduction of normal enamel & dentin, remove ONLY the DARK RED INFECTED soft dentin. This procedure prevents any patient hypersensitivity during & after low speed cavity preparation & will initiate remineralization of the underlying affected tissues.
